When he crossed the border illegally 20 yrs ago, he knew deportation could happen. But with all these Pro immigration protesting he thought he had a chance. Regardless how long he has been in this country he still broke the law and entered this country illegally. Your girlfriends father knew the consequences before he ever made the trip, what did he think was going to happen? The only way your girlfriend will see her father again in the next 10 years is to go visit him. If he sneaks back again, he will face even more problems when he is caught. One Illegal just got 14yrs for illegal re-entry.
Illegal aliens need to open their eyes and realize that deportation is happening all over this land, regardless of the pro-immigration protest. Bush can say all he wants on T.V. it means nothing until it becomes law. Sorry I can't have sympathy for a criminal, and that is what your girlfriends father is. Personally I am glad he was deported, he should have never been here in the 1st place.
You can hate me all you want, I don't care. Thanks for the good news, I will surely share it with everyone I know.
For whatever its worth your girlfriend has no one to blame for this other than her father.

Thank you I.N.S, & I.C.E., job well done!

He should have talked to a lawyer before he showed up at immigration. Any person who is in the US illegally and presents themselves to immigration can be immediately arrested and put into deportation proceedings. If they already have a deport order, they get no hearing, they get put on a plane. If they deported him right away, he probably already had a deportation order from a long time ago. He has no rights. I does not matter how long he was in the US, it does not matter that he has no criminal record. He can't come back legally for at least 10 years, unless he can show extreme hardship to a US citizen spouse or child. Your girlfriend needs to talk to a lawyer, because chances are very slim he can ever come back. It would take a good lawyer and a few thousand to accomplish that.

Obviously they can do that. There is no statute of limitations on illegal entry into our country. His chances of being able to enter the US legally and becoming a citizen are now greatly diminished. They will also do a complete background investigation into his activities while he was in the US. If he committed any fraud to get a job, he will never be allowed back. Additionally, if he used someone else's social security number to gain employment, that person can now sue him and any family members remaining in the US for damages. Good luck, but this is the price of breaking the law.

If he got deported he obviously had a prior order of deportation that was re-instated if he did not leave the U.S. when the first order was issued. You don't say if he had a criminal record that would make him ineligible for resident status.

if he came here illegally then yes they can deport him. if your girlfriend is us citizen then she can petition for him. it will take some time and it will be hard to do because she will have to write a hardship letter proving the hardship it will cause her if they do not allow her dad to return. This is extremely hard to do and I would suggest using a lawyer to do it. Good luck.

Lgatica06 is correct.
Get a lawyer and have your girlfriend file a petition (form i-130 I think) to get his paperwork.
Unfortunately he can be deported, but if he hasn't left yet I suggest your girlfriend hire a immigration lawyer asap for guidance.

What the government did was perfectly legal, because your girlfriends's dad was an ILLEGAL!!!!
I feel NO sympathy for him!!!!! He should have obeyed the law,and come here LEGALLY!!!!
If your girlfriend is "crying", whose FAULT is that??? It is your girlfriend's DAD'S fault, for being in this country ILLEGALLY!!!!

Now, after 9-11, it is possible. Immigration has been complicated for people I know even though they are legal! I feel for the illegals out there.
