Absolutely .... in fact it is usually the spouse or significant other who is the very, very best enabler. If you are the spouse and you are the enabler ... go to a 12 Step Al-Anon meeting in your area. You will find many stories, and persons just like you. They will help you be less an enabler and a proactive force in really taking care of yourself.

Of course it is, why wouldn't it be? This is no way means that the addiction is the spouse's FAULT though. Regardless, the abuser is the person who needs to accept responsibility and decide to make a change in their life.

Yes, you can be an enabler and really not realize it for awhile. such as picking up beer on the way home for a alcoholic,buying cigarettes for a smoker, the list goes on and on.
