Only indirectly. We can do things that allow God to make us holy. And we can do things that prevent God from making us holy. But it is His grace that makes us holy, not our own efforts. At least in the Catholic Church. I can't speak for others.

Only through "clothing ourselves in Christ" does God see us as holy; that's the only way to get into heaven, to be perfect with a perfect God.
We're not perfect. We mess up.
We need Jesus.

Only God is holy we can try are best but we will never hit the mark. sin means missed the mark ( Gods standerds.)
