In her answer to this question, user "Jan P" suggests that God may have caused a man to suffer a car wreck so that circumstances could be shuffled about to her advantage. She claims events transpired in such a way because she prayed and God answered her prayer.

Does anyone else feel this is how God operates?

The very belief that a god as omniscient and omnipresent as the one they worship would intervene on their behalf in any matter is the height of egocentrism. See the contradiction...if someone suffers, it is part of "God's Plan" or blamed on Satan, or more often blamed on the person. Or "The Lord Works in Mysterious Ways", which basically says that we can't understand what this god's motivations are because it's all part of the master plan. If something good happens, credit goes to God. Not other people or themselves, God. It's win-win situation for them, like most delusion scenarios it is twisted to suit the pathology of the individual.

OOH, nice response from jennyann 4 - isn't that sweet. I'm going to look into this a little further and post a question about it.

I think it's presumptuous to say that; self-centered, even. God does allow things we can't understand, letting sin, Satan, and our own wills flow through His 'economy' to accomplish the best end for us (i.e., Jesus suffering and dying so all mankind can be saved). Romans 8:28 ways 'And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.' God uses all evil for our good, but to say He caused a car accident so that she could somehow capitalize is irresponsible and scary.

Well if god doesn't interfere with our lives then he doesn't help us either. Atheists don't believe God causes suffering. Atheists believe that God doesn't exist, so we don't blame him for anything and nor do we praise him for anything. We can't be bitter towards someone if we don't believe he exists in the first place. Secondly, we don't hate religion. We just get annoyed because religion gets in our way a lot. If religion never got in our way, we wouldn't care what the christian community did with their money.

1 John 4:9,10
By this the love of God was made manifest in our case, because God sent forth his only-begotten Son into the world that we might gain life through him. 10 The love is in this respect, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent forth his Son as a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins.
Heb. 5:7-9
"Although he was a Son, he learned obedience from the things
he suffered; and after he had been made perfect he became responsible for everlasting salvation."

Jesus had the right to refuse this request from his father. However, he was humble and submitted to his fathers wishes, became human and gave his life as a ransom for our benefit (see Phil. ch. 2).

One quick note concerning Hebrews 5:7-9...who did Jesus learn "obedience" to? If Jesus was the Almighty himself, who would he be obeying? Also, if Jesus was the Almighty, knowing all things, how could he possibly "learn" obedience to begin with? Something for everyone who slants towards a trinitarian belief to stop and consider.

It seems that that is a likely way for things to work. If you apply for a the same job as somebody else who is more qualified for it and you pray hard enough that man may meet some misfortune. He sure as hell will stay unemployed while you reap the benefits, his children may even become malnourished.

And all because you wanted a raise.

He works mysteries alright, that He does, but He does not like for us to pray to get something away from someone, how about reading the Ten Commandments,in Martin Luther's small catechism, the meanings and explanations of the commandments, "we are not to call God's wrath on to anyone, and not to ask for such things, we are to ask for Him to bless our enemies, this girl is living in a dream world, but this is God's business, it is for certain He is watching us all

I took Janp's post as saying that god arranged for her and her husband to show up late to the office so they missed having to deal with the christian hater, not that god arranged the accident of the other office worker.

I don't believe God works that way anyway, all that would be teaching us is to be selfish and spiteful.

God's ways are not our ways. We cant put God in a box. God caused Christ to suffer and die for our "benefit".

The good news here is that God defines the terms "good" and "evil." If we defined these, then the definitions would change from person to person, and circumstance to circumstance.

If BOB (whomever he is) dies in an auto accident, and JANE (whoever she is) receives his heart in an organ transplant, does that mean God punished Bob or rewarded Jane? Possibly. However, that looks at death as a punishment.

Death is the entrance into the next life, which, for the faithful believer, is eternal Heaven with God. I would not call this evil, nor a punishment. I call it a reward!

No, absolutely not.I am shocked by these answers. No God did not , does not do things like that, and Jesus offered Himself to
save us because { rightly so His Father had it with us } so the
Lord died by choice, not force. No wonder people disrespect us Christians when someone would say something that stupid.
