How can Viswamitra protect Rama against the demons through the wheel of fire protecting the chalice of nectar?

Straightup: No, I just finished reading The Ramayana by Ramesh Menon and don't know the symbolism. Now I'm re-reading and asking questions.

I think the fire is probably a reference to the Vedic fire ritual. Similarly I'd interpret the 'chalice of nectar' as Soma, the sacred Vedic drink.

You have a school assignment of something? The problem is, there are many interpretations of the Ramayana (and many different translations with significant changes to the story). Also, it is one of those books that can be internalized on an individual basis. If it is an assignment, then you can only know what your professor wants, and if its for you, then make it work for you.
