This year my son will turn 8 on a Wednesday. I want to start planning his birthday party which I would rather have on the weekend. Is it better to have the party the weekend before his birthday or the weekend after? Does it matter? What do you think?

It really doesn't matter all that much but a good thing to do is to have his party the weekend after. It allows a little extra time for planning and comes in a little handy if things don't pan out the way you want them to. If you plan on having the party at a fun place like Chuck E. Cheese's or any other place, then try to plan for both weekends (you never know if they might be full up on the weekend after).

This is just an extra option but another good idea is to have a little family thing, dinner really, on the night of his birthday. The way my parents always did weekday birthdays is by letting whoever was the having the birthday choose what they wanted for dinner and, as long as it was within reason, we would eat that. I remember for my eighth birthday we had Chinese, and although I think she just ordered take-out, she made it.

Anyways, as long as you have a theme for his party, no doubt chosen by him, then you should have no problem filling in the date.

I hope I could be of some help to you.

I used to think it was nice not to have it on the actual day but I have since changed my mind. I have found when you have your childs party before or after thier actual b day they milk the whole birthday thing alot more. When you have it on there actual birthday it's one day and you get it over with. If you need to I would have the party the weekend after, if it is not possible to have it the actual evening of his birthday. The nice thing about the weekday is that birthday spots such as bowling of rollerskating are alot less busy than on the weekend

I am celebrating my daughters birthday the weekend after her birthday. Just worked out that way.

I think that you should give him your family presents on his birthday and have the party on the weekend after.

It doesn't matter. Have it the weekend before or the weekend after.

I don't think it really matters, this year we had my son's party before his actual b-day,and my daughter's after.I bake a cake and have dinner here for them,w/ the grandparents and other who are not able to make it to the actual party, and always have a gift from us for them to open on their b-day,and give them the big things at their parties!

Whichever is best for you. I'm a bit superstitious so I would plan to have it the weekend after.

It really does not matter so long as his friends can turn up for his birthday. Its good to ask this question in advanceto the mothers so then you have two dates in mind.

i don't think that it really matters unless there is a special occasion on one of the weekend that would make it hard for his friends to show up

i am celbrating my sons after his bday even though i may miss it being in the hospital delivering our daughter, but from only celebrating my birthday befor, it sucks cause people forget to wish you happy birthday on your birthday then cause it was already celebrated.
