Every young Christian starts out praying for what they want. Their prayers are basically gimme. As they mature and grow in the word and teachings of GOD, they learn to pray HIS will. a Christian walk is a day by day growth in the things of God. You want to learn what He wants. You want to learn what He has planned for you. You trust HIM to know best.

God designed a plan for all of us. Some Christians believe He had these plans before creation. BUT He created us with free will choice. We as Christian have to learn how to make our choices what He desires.

It is NOT easy. But so worth it.

Because of that pesky little thing called Free Will. God has a perfect plan. Because we're human we do sometimes pray for things to change. That's why sometimes we don't get the answer we expect, because like a loving father God gives us what we need, even when it's not always the way we thought it would be.

It is the path of holiness...We are to go on the path that leads to heaven. We are to do good and always strive to do right. Read Proverbs 4 and Psalm 16--16:8-11.
These are some simple passages that might answer your question. Also, when it comes to prayer, you are building a relationship with him. You are speaking to him. It is about connecting and building a personal relationship with your Heavenly Father & Savior.

The true Christian prayer would be that of thanks. Thanks for everything you have received, both good and bad. And "Amen" translates roughly to "let it be so" or "Your will be done". Now, having said that I can't honestly say I've never prayed for things to be given to me, or for things to be different. But fortunately for all of us, sometimes God's answer to our prayers is No. Another thing to consider is God's gift to us of free will. He has had a plan for me since before I was born, but I must be willing to follow it. So while I may pray for things to change, whether they do or not is up to Him. Hope that sheds some light for you.

We're told in the Bible what God's general plan for us is, but we don't know what the daily plan is so we'll trust God. We pray for things to change because God has the power to change them.

- You misunderstand, God's plan is that everyone lives according to His will.

- Unfortunately, we often live according to our own will since we are able to choose.

- We can live according to God plan for us but we must choose to do so, He doesn't make any of us do anything because love & devotion cannot be forced.
