I had that problem quite seriously some years ago. In the end the doctor had me sent for a session under a UV lamp for long enough to give me "sunburn".. Literally the skin on torso peeled off. It worked, but if you can find a less drastic solution - go for it.

I had adult acne and went to a dermatologist and he gave me Retin-A. However, there are some things that I've been doing (which are MUCH cheaper) and have worked just as well. I bought an over the counter acne cleanser. I also use the cleansing pads twice a day. I never go to bed with my make-up on. Once a week facial masks are also good. Believe it or not, your diet also plays an important key on your skin. I eliminated all soda's and juices and drink A LOT of water. Certain foods are a great source of antioxidants so just do a search on google on antioxidant foods and it will give you a list. Avoid foods that are heavy on fats and grease. I cut out fried foods, chocolate (although not entirely), potato chips, etc. I still love and eat those foods, but I eat them in moderation and not very often.
If you're acne does not improve, then I would suggest seeing a dermatologist and asking for some sort of prescription. Doesn't have to be Retin-A, since it's very expensive and not all health insurance's cover it. Hope this info helps. Good luck!!
...another thing. Stress can make your face break out. So if you're under a lot of stress, try ways to cope and minimize that stress. Exercise, breathing techniques, counseling, etc. Just get rid of the stress.

I would reccomend going to an endocrinologist to see if the problem is internal. One solution I've found that works is using a mild cleanser, a BP cream all over the face, and a moisturiser twice a day. I would also reccomend eating a lot of fruits and vegetables and drinking a lot of water. Ive also tried all the prescription creams, and retin-A is the only one that has worked for my stubborn chin acne. Unfortunatly I have not found a over the counter solution for my chin acne. It is the only area I cannot get completely clear.

Stop using soad. Use nuetrogene or aveeno bar. Make sure you use a toner after cleansing and use a mild moisturizer. I did this and I haven't had a pimple since. Also do not use a wash cloth, it will irratate your acne. Use your hands instead to wash your face.

I think that drinking water and cutting greasy foods really helps. I used retinA gel and it was okay. I have very sensitive skin though so I have never been able to completely get rid of it.

Using a slightly rough scrubbing mitt. It works well to open the pores and allow them to purge. You need to use it every day when you bath.
Some people are apparently much more susceptible than others.
