If the cut does not heal in a day or so, yes, take kitty to the bet. Antiseptic burns a bit... try neosporin instead: my vet reccomends it. It could be ear mites too, in this case kitty needs ivermectin for ear mites.... you can order this remedy from
dr. foster and smith on line, but only if kittens ears look like there are coffee grounds in there... those are mites. Just black waxy is just dirty ears, but the grainy lumpy black grinds lookind stuff is the mites.
Could also be ringworm, so if you love kitty, make the trip.
where do you live? You might be able to find a vet tech in your area who can give kitty a preliminary once over for you. Good luck,

As a word of advice, never use any human medicine. It actually makes things MUCH MUCH worse! You are better to clean it with a wet towel and let it alone. Cats are very smart animals and they know how to care for themselves - better than we ever could do so. I would suggest though that you take your kitten to the vets. The bleeding is most likely the cause reaction to "ear mites". It is like a little bug that is in the ear that itches terrribly so they scratch to get rid of the pain. You kitten also might have fleas, therefore the vet appointment is your best choice. Please also, don't use over the counter medicine from the pet store or grocery store - they will not help. Although the store medicine will kill the bugs that are alive already, it will not kill the ones that are unborn still. Your best bet is to go to the vets - it will save you money in the long run. Good Luck with the itching!

Sounds like mites or fleas. Check the base of the tail for black specks. If there are little dark red or black specks, it's fleas. Get a flea medication for kittens.

If there aren't specks, then it could be mites or an allergy. Mites can be dealt with by applying vegetable oil to the affected area. If it's mites, there should be some dark waxy build up in the ear, sometimes accompanied by small red dots.

If nothing else looks right, get a "Hot spot" medication. It'll say right on it that it's for relieving itching.

Good luck.

Edit: when picking a flea medication, pick one that says "Kills all stages", this means it kills eggs, larvae, and adult fleas. Then get a carpet powder to kill any that jump ship. I've dealt with this before, and a combination of the two will generally clear up the problem.

your kitten might have ear mits and that may be why he scratches at that other wise he may have an infection or something could have crawled under his skin and is now irritating the hell out of it. CALL a vet and just explain the situation and ask if there is something you can do for your kitty instead of brining him in. he may be able to help you identify what it is he has or doesnt have. good luck poor little guy

I would monitor what happens with the ear. You cat may have scratched behind the ear so much that it started bleeding. If it continues then yes take the cat to the vet. The cat could have some sort of infection or even fleas. It's good to get it taken care of right away.

Check and look inside kitty's ears... smell it. Does it stink? If it does, kitty's ear may have an infection and will need antibiotics. Are there tiny black flake-like particles like dirt inside his ears? Those are earmites and very itchy for your kitty. If kitty has earmites, you need to take him to the vet to have his ears cleaned out reall well and be given an ointment to get rif of the earmites. Won't cost very much so don't be afraid to go take kitty to the vet.

Check the ear, and call the vet and describe what you see. He should be the only one to determine if you need to get the kitty to the vet.
