that's not fair...you answered your own question
it's egotistical b/c religious folks think quite highly of themselves and their status as a human being...perhaps they put too much emphasis on "being" and not enough on "human"...they assume they are nearing a god-like status and that their "soul" will persist in heaven indefinitely as long as they are "good boys and girls"...in the end i think it is only a fear of death...and a waste of energies in life

I believe quite the opposite is true. And the truth is that is sounds foolish to them that do not understand the truth. It is egotistical to say I cannt see something so therefore it does not exist. And to understand even though in Yahoo Answers there may seem a lot of people that agree with you and approve of your statement in the world you are very very much in a minority. Many religions believe in afterlife and most people in the world believe in an after life.
You statement proves you have the exact mind set Lucifer had in heaven to think he could overthrow God's eternal plan by his thoughts and I am very sure Satan is much smarter than you or I.

You say it is egotistical to believe in God or an afterlife. I say it is egotistical to push your belief that there is no God or afterlife on the innocent souls of others. If I am wrong and there IS no God or afterlife, than my faith did not hurt me or anyone else because we are all going nowhere when we die anyway. If YOU are wrong and there IS a God and an afterlife, then not only have you just condemned your own soul, but you have also condemned the souls of those you influenced by your own views of this subject. To me, that is way more egotistical than my belief that God and an afterlife exists!

I understand your question, but why egotistical (unless the person in question is claiming to be god?) I'd say it's perhaps more a question of misdirected hope (or something else) rather than egotism. But I truly agree- this is it- one go round, so live life to the fullest and enjoy it.

you are confused. Religions are based on the pleasure principle they try to reward and warn of consequences the carrot and the stick. Their human origins are all written over them. I suppose that's why you say they are ego centered. The trauma of death is what creates the "need" for an afterlife.

It means you think you are so special that there is an all powerful being that loves you very much and takes delight in your prayers and wants to spend forever with you.

It's more egotistical to assume you know what is after life.

I disagree. In fact, I believe that we live multiple lives. I'll see you on the other side.
