közvitéz: regular soldier
fm.: (probably) földmives, i.e. farmer, farm laborer
helv.: helvét - literally, Swiss, but in this context probably refers to the Hungarian Reformed Church (which is a type of Calvinism)
vall.: vallás = religion, denomination (literally, "that which is confessed")

(Note for the future: full context is *always* helpful. For instance, do helv. and vall. occur right after each other, or separately? If the former, then the above definitions work; if the latter, then we might have to look further afield for possible explanations.)

Try www.rootsweb.com, look for email lists, and find one that specializes in Hungarian research. They are very easy to subscribe to (and you meet many friendly/ helpful people). Get acquainted, and post to the list. It really looks like these are abbreviations, like we would use "md" for married, so forth.
Another option is to go (again) to the same email list section, and pull up their archives of old messages. Browse the messages (not search), and your question may be answered there. Sounds like a basic thing for someone looking in Hungarian records.

Go with the answer right above this one. Martha is an excellent source for accurate information about Hungarian and Magyar culture in general. But it looks like the answer above Martha's is also good.

hello, im from Hungary.
im not sure of all of them, but:
- i think "fm." means "foldmuves" or "foldmuvelo" which means a peasant or farmer [usually who has an own land to cultivate]
- vall. is the abbreviation of vallás, which means: religion
- közvitéz: i think it means ordinary soldier
- helv. is the abbreviation of "helvét", it is a variant of evangelical religion

i hope this helps.
