Puppy chow is crap. There are a few quality foods out there. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. and growing have a 3 year old pit. And when they are puppies they require more food(hyper dogs) And should keep them on puppy food for at least a year. when they are older they are still active i use a high protein diet. i do feed my dog at least 2 to 3 cups a day along with a can of wet. the more active your dog is the more food. if your worried about the nutrients at such age. Add formula to puppy chow. dogs natural diet is meat. but I'm sure your dog will be just fine on chow. i use pedigree baneful. Pit bulls have allergies, corn is hard for dogs to digest so try carrots as snacks..

We feed our pit puppy Nutro puppy formula...You can get it at PetCo or PetSmart. It is on the more expensive side, but they are worth it. Puppy Chow has alot of fillers in it, like most "cheaper" foods. Now that mine is eating the way he is supposed to be again, he gets 6 cups a day.(3 in am and 3 in pm)...He is 60 # @ 8 months! Pits are balls of muscles! Puppies need all the nutrients and vitamins they can get...

hi there!
a dog starts going into "adulthood" at about 12 months of age. from 8 weeks to 5 months you should feed ur pup 3 small meals a day of good quality food. (ie: if u r feeding dry food, look at the weight chart on the pack for ur dogs age & weight and whatever the amount that is 'perscribed', divide it into 3 portions for breakfast, lunch and dinner) try to find something with no by products and preservatives. this will mean a healthier pup and less smelly waste for u to clean up! these by products etc in dog food can often make ur dog's stool runny and/or smelly and their urine very acydic which will burn the grass. a product with less artificial additives will make their stool harder and less smelly and their urine less acydic.
when gracie passes 5 months of age, start feeding her 2 meals a day, morning and night. if ur feeding her dry food, swich to an adult selection. mix it with her puppy food too as the sudden change in diet may upset her stomach. (ie for the first week feed her the desired amount for lunch and dinner [eg 1 cup?] and feed her 1/2 a cup of pup food and 1/2 a cup of adult food mixed together. slowly wean her off the puppy food by each day adding less pup food and more adult food!
when she reaches 12 months of age, she may only be fed one meal a day at dinner time, unless of course it suits u to feed her twice a day. just make sure tht if u do feed her twice a day, u dont overfeed her. remember that a dog will always appear to be hungry! they will eat and eat and eat if u keep giving them food! haha... my dog would eat 24/7 if i let her! dont be worried about 'underfeeding' her. as long as u stick to the guidelines on ur brand of choice, gracie wont go hungry! (though she may try to make u think she is haha...) here is the website of the food i feed my dogs (Lilie and Frankie) www.barf.com.au
the food is amazing - i swear by it!!
i hope i was able to help! and good luck to you and gracie!! =)

Until a puppy is a year old they should have puppy food. Even though it is more expensive it has stuff that they need as they grow. Don't listen to anyone that tells you to feed her adult food. We used to have a dog and that's what we were told by the breeder

I used to feed my dogs Ol'Roy but decided to try Nutro. I will never go back. Nutro has no by products, so they get more stuff their body actually uses and they produce MUCH less waste. Plus they really like the taste.

At work we feed puppy food to dogs who under a year old. It helps with their growth and development.

Rule of thump is if you buy the food from the grocery store it is crap!! Get your food from a pet store there are less buy products in the food and better for your dog. I know it cost more but if you try i f for a few months you will see she will eat less and poop less!! her coat will be shinier and her health will be better

Nutro
avaoderm
Nature Reciept
Pinnical

These are just a few really good foods!! Please do not feed Imas or Science diet they are only one step above grocery store food!! Ask your vet or local pet store to help you out!!

Since this is a large breed puppy, you can switch her to adult food. Use a good all natural food such as Nutro Ultra or Authority. Puppy chow is cheap and horrible. Don't buy anything with animal by-products or corn, they are also cheap fillers but are used in many expensive brands such as Hills.

Feed him Nutro for puppies, it is supposed to be better ingrediants and does not contain cancer causing chemicals.
