I got a massage for my birthday on Sunday and on Monday I couldn't get out of bed. I'm all sore and inflamed. I could barely walk and its 3 days later. Should I call the place I got the massage or go to the doctor??

I know the feeling. The masseuse worked areas of your muscles that were probably habitually tensed and when they were rubbed hard, it caused your severe pain. Unfortunately, this experience occurs with a lot of people. I would definitely call the place where your got the massage and hear what they have to say, and then I would make them sign something and then I would go to a doctor and report this for help. It sounds like you need to be seen by your own physician for extra help with the muscle pain. They have probably irritated a nerve or muscle that created this pain.

This happened to me from using a massage chair. When it rotated to my upper back, I developed severe pain, but I believe it helped in the long run, because I found out I had considerable arthritis in the thoracic spine. I hope you get better soon.

PS; Sometimes the masseuse is too aggressive and that makes it a bad experience rather than a good one.

NO - you should NOT have severe pain after a massage. The most you should feel is some muscle soreness - that's all. If you went for a massage to help a specific complaint, and experienced severe pain afterwards, then the massage aggravated your complaint instead of helping - it did damage. Do not be fooled into thinking it has to hurt to do good - that's simply not true. If you just went for a general massage, and experienced severe pain afterwards, then the massage was too heavy handed and again did damage, not good. Severe pain should NEVER be felt as a result of a proper massage.

Go to the doctor. I bet you didn't drink your water after the massage, did you? You HAVE to drink lots of water after--at least 3-4 bottles (20 oz. bottles--so about 80 oz. all together) or you will feel like crap for a few days. A massage releases a LOT of toxins that were in your muscles out into your body. That's why you have to drink. But since you have such back pain, you should see your doctor. In case the massage therapist hit a spot in your back and you have a pinched nerve or something.

It sounds as though you may have received a deep tissue massage, which would cause you to feel sore. Take some tylenol for the pain, it should ease up in the next few days.

Did you get a deep tissue massage? Soreness is to be expected if you did.
See if you can make it through the weekend, and then I would go to the doctor.
Try stretching and hot compress.
