"I am right because this sentence I wrote says I am right."

I would explain "circular reasoning" to them before anything else.

The Rig Veda says that the earth sits on top of an elephant, which sits on top of a turtle. When the question is posed, what does the turtle sit on top of, the Rig Veda answers that it is turtles all the way down.

In other words, the concept of God leads to an infinite regress. If God created the earth, who created God? God's dad? And, who created God's dad? God's Grand-dad? And so on.

On the otherhand, it could be God all the way down? The unmoved mover, the uncaused cause. God created himself? But that doesn't make sense, because that would imply that God existed before he existed.

Perhaps God all is, without creation--uncaused. But even so, if God is the creator of all things, why would one worship a God that is the creator of evil? Because of free choice?

Then a moral being would have to choose not to worship the author of evil. Because an all loving, all knowing, all powerful, all pervading being, could have created the universe without evil and still allow freewill. Such a being can do anything. But did not....Therefore, God is the author of evil and cannot be God.

Or, you could just say that the bible is self-referencing and as such there is not enough evidence to support its truth content, except on faith. But, then Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists have faith in their books too. So, who is right?

I'm not an atheist, but the bible was mostly pinched from other religions. Even much of the teachings in new testament actually come from those who wrote the dead sea scrolls, and who are thought to have taught the man who later became known as Jesus.

The book of Revelations was mostly pinched from other religions. The argument that the people this was pinched from, had a better knowledge of the universe and how it was created is laughable. Of course, you have the argument that faith is all you need, but faith should also be based on Facts. Christians use the Bible as their source of facts, but the facts in it were generated by people who believed that humans are inhabited by devils and demons, and explained all diseases as being caused by such. Now we know that they are caused by virus, germs, and faulty DNA.

Why should we believe that those who couldn't see the universe through telescopes and such, would have more knowledge of the universe, than we who do have such technology.

Is that enough?

Why do you need a counter argument? If you accept the Bible as an authority, then this argument is strong. If you reject the Bible as an authority, then this argument is pointless. Since Atheists reject the Bible as an authority, the argument that the Bible says God created the earth holds no influence over them.

The counter argument would simply be to say you don't believe the Bible.

Maybe it's only our misguided interpretation as to what the true definition of God is.Let's say some advanced race had brought us here from another dying world and our current Bible theology is actually a layman's or children's version of the truth about creation or the knowledge of an ability to create with advanced technologies. I woudn't exactly refer to this definition as being an atheists version though.

Who says the what is written in the Bible is true?
If I say I am God. It is written down, but it is not true.
Plus the facts: evolution (Darwin). It is a prooved theory. There is evidence for the evolution. But any evidence for God?

Anyway...common, an old man sitting in the middle of nowhere decides to create a world, and then he designs and constructs all the elements...please
and then his son, like a wizard creates fish out of stone, cures ill people by putting his hand on them...beautiful fairy tail...no sorry, I would say science fiction

I am not an atheist, but nor am I a Christian. So here is my asnwer.

To me, every individual on this earth is here to tell their story. We are all nothing but stroy tellers. Whether you believe in God or not, is just part of your belief; your story.

So, we come to the Bible... A huge tome which tells many individuals' stories about their lives here on earth, and about the "divine." If you believe that, more power to you. If you do not believe that, more power to you!

We all have the right to believe what we wish, and it is my belief that as long as we do no harm to ourselves or others, and seek to live a life of joyous love and acceptance, than no matter what story it is we hold as "our story" (our belief) it is not any better than anyone elses story.

So, to come here asking what people think of the Bible's version of the creation... Who cares?

The real question should ONLY ever be, what do YOU think about creation?

There are many sources that say that God created the earth. The Bible rarely agrees with anything else that those other books say. None of the sources that say God created the earth are in agreement with one another so none of them should be taken seriously.

I created the earth because I said so in this answer. That should provide all the counter you need.

Well, I'm not an atheist, but I'll put my 2 cents in anyway. The bible has been translated soooo many times who knows if the content in it is even what was originally there???

Well, I say the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the earth because my book says so.

Circular reasoning and you can't support an argument by saying your source is infallible.
