My company is going on a cruise to the bahamas. We are not flying anywhere and I know that I would need a passport to fly to the carribean or back so I should be alright there but I am moving shortly and cannot get a passport in time. Will I be ok with my new State ID and birth certificate as far as boarding the cruise?

If the cruise is to the Caribbean area and/or Mexico, passports are no longer mandatory . Passports for land and sea return and forth heavily isn't mandatory till June 2009. Even then, cruises that start up and bring about the comparable port in the U.S. would be exempted from the desire for passports. See websites below. Now, some cruise traces like passengers to have passports, so which you're able to call and ask their coverage.

You will not need a passport for a cruise until 2008. You are correct that at the current time, only those arriving in the US by air need a passport.

I am fairly certain that you will need a passport just to get on the cruise ship. Check with the cruise line itself for further guidance. Another unsolicited bit of advice is to get your Hepatitis vaccination before you go.

You will not need a passport - the regulations have changed for travel via air but the regulations are still the same traveling via land or by sea. Those are not set to change until 2008 January.

Have a great time!

As far as I've heard, you need a passport to go to Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico (this was just in the news). Check with the cruiseline but I'm sure you'll need a passport!

That used to do it, but I think it recently changed. You need a passport! Have a blast!

you'll need one once you get to the port before you can board the cruise ship and once you get back in port in the USA.

It would be a very smart idea to be on the safe side. I don't think you would want to get stuck with a problem on your hands.
