I have 5 cats and a dog, we adopted the dog a year ago, i admit they are alot better together, but sometimes 3 of the cats still run away sometimes and my dog cant help it but to chase after them. it dont want them to be best freinds, but 2 of my cats now let her walk really close to them and sometimes touch noses, she doesnt chase them because they dont run. but the other cats just make eachother worse and set themselves all off running, its frustrating sometimes. is there anyway to get them to just like eachother? thanks.

Personally why bother. If the cats are not really hurting the dog leave it alone. Very few cats and dogs develop a close bond.I grew up with cats,dogs,chickens,gerbils, you name it.The dog and cats never got along but eventually had there own parts of the house and all lived happily into there 20's

The key here is to stop the dog from chasing the cats say a firm NO and send the dog to his bed this will allow the cats to get to know the dog on their terms good luck.

Ha! I know this problem only too well! I have 6 cats and two dogs, my collie gets on with all the cats, my lurcher chased them when we first got her.

You can solve it by buying a plants spray bottle, twist the knob so that the water spurts out and squirt your dog each time he starts to chase them. He'll soon stop and it doesn't hurt. Just remember to keep the spray nearby you at all times. It should work within a couple of days!

Good luck.

If a cat runs, a dog chases thats the law in their heads,
If a dog gets too close, the cat will run....

It'll only get better with time and trust building between them

It's natural for cats to dislike dogs and it's natural for dogs to chase cats.
If I was a cat and saw a dog coming, I would run too. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Try serving it with a bit of fish and some veg. Or why not on toast, just plain dog isnt very appetising and will give a cat the RUNS !! How about a dog burger?

it depends on the age of the cats...sometimes that i cat is stuck in there ways and wont change.... or it might just take a lil longer for then to to alone.... when you play with the dog try to have the cats play too. make it a group activity...they have to get used to being around the dog. yes it might get hard but it is worth the time.

Ha ha I have a dog and recently intoroduced him to 3 cats, it just takes time for them to get used to eachother a few tips are;

feed them together from seperate bowls but put them next to eachother, you can share a water bowl, stroke one of your dogs on your left side and a cat on the toehr thatway the realise that your not scared of them as usually your dog will be trying to protect your form the cat

Othe rthan that just give them time to adapt to eachother now all 4 of them cuddle up to go to bed and if my dog needs to go during the night and cant be let outside he uses the cat litter box

well... try putting the cats that are afraid in the same room with the dog with at least an hour a day and than maybe longer sessions. That way the cats can't run away and they will get used to each other. Desensitize them.

First off you need to tell your dog no when he chases them.They love games and that is a game to him.Cats do not like to be chased us less they are playing.They hate it.They feel threatened by him and they will not like him tell it stops. So start working on your dog that's your problem.The cats will eventually feel more at ease around him when he does not chase them. Good luck.
