My step-son comes hme from school with sheets of paper that are his homework. They are usually dirty and wrinkeled. We buy him folders and notebooks, but it doesn't help.
Any ideas how to encourage a kid to be more tidy? He is going on 10.

Do you normally clean up after him or does he do it himself? Normally kids that have to clean up their rooms and themselves as part of their daily routine are clean in other ways too. So, i am guessing it might be a larger issue and getting that clean routine in order would help.

Try visiting the website dyslexia.com
A lot of issues can show up in bright, intelligent, children at a certain age. Perhaps there are other traits your son has that match some information there on that site. Look for "37 common traits of dyslexia" on that site and see if he has other traits.
That site helps some people see their potential and minimize their small negatives. And it shows parents how to maximize learning oportunities for their kids.

LOL>> my 17 yr old son is the same way and always has been. You can encourage them to be more organized, slow down and put things away, but the truth is, most boys just aren't gonna take the time.

The final time I seen them they have been noticeably and white, yet by potential of now they in all risk have a brown streak working from right to backside. Oh, you're speaking approximately drawers as in dresser drawers! nicely, they are cluttered, regrettably. i attempt to get them prepared with stacks of this or that from left to spectacular, yet they do no longer stay that way. recently, the spouse and that i've got been leaving our laundry piled up on one fringe of our eating room table and on the ironing board by using fact that is purely me and her on the abode now.

sit down with him and teach him how to be neat and organized. it takes time for a child to do this so be patient. have him keep a folder of every subject. tell him to only put math papers in the math folder. same for english and so on. eventually with positive reinforcement, you child should learn why he should do this. it is better for him to learn now than later. hope this helps. good luck.

When I was in school if we turned in homework like that the teacher would rip it up and say it was a disgrace! Nuns are like that, but it taught us better. Tell him it is a reflection on himself, he needs to take pride in his work.

He probably doesn't give a hoot like my 12 year old daughter. She won't even let me near her back pack. Let me tell you it gets worse as they get older so just let them do their own homework unless they are failing let them have their own space.
