I've never bought a used car before, first time buying a car. My parents have always bought new cars, and they usually have to wait a week or two after buying the car before they can pick it up from the dealer. How about a used car? Can I drive off the same day I buy it?

yes if it displays a price then its usually ready to go .. now ask to take it for a free safety inspection at your dad and moms mechanics plce call the shop after locating the car you want and make a day and time to get a general saftey inspection thats free now take a list of problems and ask for the repairs price off the car price thats all free but you may want to pay the mechanic a little like a hundred to run the e-prom or computer diagnostics on the car now he has any hidden problems that may kill the deal .. or cut the price way down . also look up the year and the brand and the car online in edmunds and also run a search on recalls now you know what to look for in the cars problems and can avoid factory lemons or car fax for 30 bucks they will run the history of every car you look at for that for a month online see now you know Joe Blow wreaked the front end and can bargain the price down accordingly good luck an olde dude

Used cares means... BUYER BEWARE! Do a little research before you pick a car simply because of the color or style. Go to the library and look through a Consumer's Reports Car Guide. They have tested and evaluated many cars and trucks and their advice is reputable.
If the car has gone through the service department and been DETAILED (cleaned up)... YES! You can drive it home that day.
After, you paid for it of course. The paperwork will take several weeks to process.
