What would someone in high school want/need to do to prepare himself for enlisting in the US Marine Corp, as Infantry?

I went to the Marine infantry right out of high school. Besides getting in shape as several people have mentioned here, you'd definitely want to talk to a recruiter. My recruiter arranged for actual drill instructors to come and yell at us for a couple hours for the culture shock, and it helped a lot when we actually got to boot camp. Have your recruiter show you some drill movements, since a lot of boot camp is learning how to drill (march) around. It was a lot less physical than what I thought, but you'll still definitely want to be in great shape. Being able to swim helps some too.

Don't believe all the flak that you'll die and it isn't worth it and only idiots are in the infantry. It takes brains to be in the infantry. You need to know all about land navigation, explosives, weaponry, tactics, etc. Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any questions.

It depends. The US has a larger population and bigger military yet a lot of what the US knows, they learned from the Brits. Does The British has the support of other big players such as the EU, China, Russia or some other rival nation of the like or are on their own? If the UK was on its own without allies, it would be crushed quickly. However I doubt the US would be able to hold down the British population when they revolt against their authority ( the British have a long tradition of bucking would be invading nation from their homeland and proved to be remarkably resilient.) If the UK politically isolated the US and had allies on its side, I can see it becoming a bloody and long war with the US eventually being worn out and have the yanks spend their ability to support such an effort. The only reason I can see the US invading the UK is as a staging point for a further campaign against main land Europe in order to invade and take it over. Which I do not see happening any time soon for there is not a reason to do so. The last time this happened was WW2 when the US used the British isles as staging point to invade Nazi controlled Europe and to stage D day. If Britain was conquered by the Germans before the US came, I doubt the allies would have won.

Stay out of trouble, don't do any kind of drugs, they disqualify people for that now. Stay in school and graduate.

On the military side I would speak to a recruiter, get into top physical shape, (boot camp is hell) Depending on where you live you can try becoming a really good shot with a rifle. You will have to qualify as a marksman at a minimum to finish boot camp. Or you can try going to a shooting range. I would also learn everything I could about the M-16. Good Luck- Semper Fi.

I made my career in the US Marine Corps. I would sugest you start getting into shape fast. Get yourself to be able to complete 20 Pull ups (the more the better), 100 situps in 2 minutes, and run 3 miles in 15 minutes. I also recommend you go to your local Barnes and Noble or Borders or Whatever and Pickup any copy of a Marine Corps History book. OPEEN YOUR MIND. Marines are tough physically and mentally. Finally, lose all fear. You can't be afraid to do or try anything. Second guessing is a product of fear. Questioning is a product of fear.

The rest of it you'll learn in Boot Camp.

Good luck and Semper Fi.

First, do your very best in school.
Second, Talk to the local recruiter. They have programs for students thinking of the Marines.
Third, Go to...thefew.com website. Look under Marine Discussions. Go to the.. wannabee site. All your questions will be answered there.

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BAD MOUTH ANY MARINES ON THAT SITE, NO MATTER WHAT SOMEONE MAY SAY TO YOU. YOU WILL BE BANNED. THERE ARE SOME HARDASS** THERE, BUT MOST ARE THERE TO HELP YOU.

Good luck and Semper Fi.

If you have an ROTC program join. Also there is a program for kids from 8 to 18 called the Young Marines there is a unit locator on the site. Go to one of their drills, it's a really cool program (my husband, a Marine, is the XO of our local unit) Also talk to your local recruiter. Thanks in advance for wanting to serve our GREAT country, SEMPER FI!

Dig a hole in your Back yard about five feet deep. Hire someone to yell at you constantly. Eat only saltine crackers and water for a week and at the end proclaim yourself proud for the experience. He he he, just kidding.
What you need is physical training and mental fortitude, get tough hombre!

Exercise....the PFT is pull-ups, situps and a 3 mile run...the important part is the run. You need to be able to run it in less than 20 minutes to be considered in *okay* shape...
