My parakeet is really stupid, might even be retarded! It looks at me all crazy-like with those beady little eyes and doesn't even talk! It always has drool running down it's stupid lips and (WHAT THE HECK?), it's always flying about and pooping on things! Do vets put birds to sleep too, or just cats and dogs? And what's a good kind of pet to get that's actually SMART? Are bunnies smart? They're really cute. :-)

Down's syndrome is heritable! Can snails die of common cold?

You're being facetious right? Or just deliberately acting stupid?

A. You can't catch Downs Syndrome. It is a genetic abnormality. And generally people resent you associate words like stupid and retarded to people who are born different. not very PC.

b. Birds don't drool. If you are seeing "drool" your bird is sick.

c. He won't talk just cuz you want him too. You have to spend a lot of time training it. Parakeets (Budgerigars) are not noted for an excellent ability to mimic speech. Than can do it, but for most it is very hard to do. Males are better at it than females. And the ability to mimic speech tells nothing about intelligence.

d. Flying and pooping is what birds do. If you don't want him to poop on things train him not to. It can be done, but I don't think you're the one to do it.

e. Bunnies are not noted for intelligence either. Cuteness has nothing to do with brains. But then you're probably told that all the time...

Picking a "smart" pet depends entirely on what you consider to be smart. Generally having a pet that is smarter than you is not a good idea, so be careful what you wish for.

Downs syndrome is genetic. It's not something you can "catch". And, sorry to say, parakeets don't always learn to talk. In fact, without a LOT of effort on your part, they won't learn.

Flying and pooping? that's what parakeets DO.

Want a smart pet? Get a rat. Seriously, smartest pet you can get. But any pet needs love and attention, and you have to be willing to give it that. If you want your pet to do tricks, you have to Teach it.

Don't get a bunny. They are DUMB. Cute, yes. But they will pee and poo in your lap, and you'll just do the same thing you're doing here.

Don't want a rat? Gerbil, guinea pig (they purr when happy, but tend to pee on people and are sort of stupid)... Not a lot of choices to fit what you're looking for.

Get a rat or a mouse.

And DON'T put your bird to sleep. That is cruel. Give it away. Someone will want it.

i desire you do not strategies that i'm including my 2 cents right here. do not difficulty with regard to the choosing me element. i'm a Democrat and a strict Catholic follower. I even have struggled with this for the reason that i substitute into an corporation believer in marriage between a woman and a guy, yet you be conscious of what? I listened. I heard what gay women and adult adult males persons had to assert. They have been discriminated against. They could not see their kin in the wellbeing facility or take part in significant judgements that a residing will might embody. In different wards, that they had no rights. not in basic terms that, yet i delved back into my bible instructions, my examining. a number of them consult from marriage as a accountability, some talk of a brother in regulation marrying if the husband dies! what! Are we actually following scripture or interpretation? i can't have faith that my God, a real and loving God might decide to work out his followers casting stones, judging, and treating human beings in assessment to we, ourselves, decide to be taken care of. i did not p.c. the Democratic occasion through fact i admire the Donkey image yet incredibly all it represents; the undesirable, the elderly, the oppressed, and the forgotten. it incredibly is merely too undemanding to be narcissistic in this international and picture of ourselves. I advise How non secular is that?

are you for real?
First of all you don't "catch" downs syndrome.
Second birds don't have lips!
It is obvious that you did not do any research before getting your bird... Hello....birds have wings... they fly... if they eat regular they are going to poop! I would suggest maybe trying to take the bird to a shelter... or call some pet shops they might be willing to take the bird off your hands. Maybe you should re think the pet thing. Pets are a big responsibility and maybe you are not ready for that.

Ya know..people generally don't appreciate the word "retarded". And you are saying it as an insult. Parakeets are not talkers and since they are birds..they fly. All birds poop on things. I don't think any pet should be in your care.

Hay Hilda, are you a blonde? I'm really not going to answer your questions. The answers the other people gave are pretty much in the middle of the scope. (Meaning, right on target.)
Bunnies might be cute, but so is Paris Hilton. But they're both dumber than a box of rocks.

You don't seem mature or sensitive enough to care for a pet, let alone a needy one. Take him to the vet and find out what's really ailing your parakeet. If there's nothing wrong with him, find a friend who will really take care of him. All beings are sacred, don't get another pet until you realize that along with love for a pet comes the responsibility of caring for them.

vets put everything to sleep and if it's drooling from flying into things it has a concusion. take it to the vet immeadiatley!! birds are smart. although smaller ones lack some but can be taught to talk....bigger birds like conures, love birds, cockatoos are smarter. the smartest breed would be the african grey. I have one..she's about 10 months old. still a baby but learning to speak.
