You have to be prepared to walk out if he treats you in a way you don't like. If you're not willing to be single or to break up with him, then you will continue to be treated like crap.
I wouldn't even let my bf raise his voice to me and the first time he called me a name, I broke up with him and told him that it's too bad he's sorry NOW, but he should have thought about that before he was mean. Guys will usually apologize, but for me it's too late - don't be a jerk in the first place!

When you build up your own self esteem you will be able to deal with this. Until then you will continue to take the crap. I am speaking from my own experience. Eventually there will be the straw that breaks the camels back. I took it for a while and then I realized that I was becoming useless even to myself. It was then game over. Time for a life change. I also had a career change that helped boost my self esteem. I've been going uphill since then. Idiots that put down other people also have a self esteem issue. That's why they knock you down. Can't have anything better then themselves hey. You truly cannot do anything until you start believing in yourself. Once you do that, you won't take the crap anymore believe me.

I agree with gi_jane. The next time that he does that tell him that you don't deserve to be treated like this and that the next time it happens you will leave. He needs to know that you're bothered by it and it hurts you to hear things negatively from the person you care about. Don't let him get away with it. The best thing you could do is walk away. You don't have to be defensive, just let him know you're a strong enough person to walk away when you know it's the right thing to do.
Let him know there are many other guys out there that would treat you like you should be treated and if he doesn't step up and realize that he'll lose you in a matter of seconds.

You said earlier that your ex threatened you if you dated anyone else. How could you have a boyfriend, unless you're ex isn't your ex and is your boyfriend. How do you defend your dignity? You dump him and refuse to be treated like crap.

defending your own integrity should not be an issue, it should be a given....if your boyfriend is abusing you and you are letting him get away with it, then you are losing a whole huge chunk of your integritgy right there! you either need to stand up to him (tell him to get off your back, tell him to stop, tell him to respect you because respect is a given in a relationship) or leave. i'm sure you really like this guy, but if he is verbally abusive then there is a good chance he will move on to other forms of abuse when he gets bored withthat. you deserve to be with someone who loves and respects you. it is hard decision but it is possible.

mia, i might be alot of things, alot of them could be considered negative, but one thing i DON'T do is talk crap to someone i actually have feelings for... if it's talking crap as in just flirty talking shiet back and forth, then that's fine, but if he's demeaning u or making u feel like less of a person, then honetly, ditch him u deserve better... guys who do that are usually very insecure, and try and make themselves feel better by making the partner feel like they are the ones with the issues or are not worthy...

Personally, and I'm sure many will disagree, I don't think you NEED to defend yourself. But I DO think you should get rid of him. He obviously doesn't respect you. SURELY there is someone better out there for you who is more deserving. Good luck!

You shouldn't have to defend yourself to someone who claims to love you. If he talks to you like crap its because you let him get away with it. Stand up for yourself and kick this loser to the curb!!!
