First off, cancer is hundreds of different diseases.

Secondly, DCA has significant side effects.

Although dichloroacetate "has actually been used safely in humans for decades"[7] its therapeutic use can cause pain, numbness and gait disturbances in some patients.[8] A clinical trial where DCA was given to patients of MELAS (a form of genetically inherited lactic acidosis) at 25 mg/kg/day indicated peripheral nerve toxicity.

That said, this is no miracle cancer cure but I wouldn't object if one week's worth of the money being wasted in Iraq was used to test this and other off patent medicines with the potential to treat cancer.

It's an opinion. Lots of people who don't have cancer and do not understand that cancer is over 200 different, sperate diseases post opinions like this. If the guy would dig a little deeper he might just find out that this is still being investigated. People who face cancer on a daily basis tract or pass this type of information around all the time on message boards and ListServs . . it is people who do not understand the disease who always think there is a 'cure' somewhere that is being hidden.

The biggest problem with most of these types of opinion is that people who are newly diagnosed can often become confused by the mixed messages. So, to those of you who are seeking real information about your disease, Yahoo Answers is probably not a good place for you. If you have real questions about your cancer diagnosis please seek out the ListServ groups at ACOR. You will meet people who have the same disease and can guide you to the best information possible:

This article doesn't cite anything, it claims results. Why don't they give the exact source so it's possible to look at the study itself?

A short check on NCBI gives some other info as well:
TCA produces liver tumors in mice with the phenotypic characteristics common to peroxisome proliferators (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=15147791&query_hl=1&itool=pubmed_docsum
).
Dichloroacetic acid (DCA) is a major by-product of water disinfection by chlorination. Several studies have demonstrated that DCA exhibits hepatocarcinogenic effects in rodents when administered in drinking water.(Dichloroacetic acid (DCA) is a major by-product of water disinfection by chlorination. Okay, these are results for mice only, but all of a sudden I don't believe in miracles any more.

It may well turn out to be a major treatment against cancer, but the testing process has to happen first. My mother participated in a study of Keflex before they had the dosage standardized. It knocked out her kidneys and she was on dialysis for many years.

Yes, I read that article on another channel on Netscape today. I believe that the pharmaceutical companies will do whatever it takes to make enough money to support several homes, cars, computers for themselves and their families while my family suffers with advanced cancer.
