Last Friday I was diagnosed with a case of tonsilitis. I was prescripted AMOXICILAN for 5 days (3 tablets a day). I've never been prescribed antibiotics for that short of a duration. The antibiotics seemed to take forever to kick in. My sore throat just went away two days ago and my fever just let up last night. I feel basically alright now, but I still am naggingly coughing up green-colored junk from my lungs. Should I go back and get a second round of antibiotics?

Amoxicillin is a general mild antibiotic that is usually the first one that doctors use. If you have finish all of the amoxicillin I would call and let your doctors office know what is going on. To be coughing up green junk still tells me you have a slight infection still there.

Make sure you talk to your doctor about your symptoms, he/she will prescribe what's best. However, do not go to your doctor demanding antibiotics- if you use antibiotics too freely your body can develop "antibiotic resistance" which can hurt your chances of healing from an infection in the future. Perhaps the reason the antibiotics didn't work is that the illness isn't bacterial at all, but maybe it is viral. You can definitely acquire viral tonsillitis. Usually with viruses you have to wait it out, but there are some antivirals that might help. Good luck!

It sounds like you are feeling better except for the couch.A cough is normally the last thing to leave after we have been sick. I would give it a couple of days before I went back to the doctors,as long if it is only a cough. It should'nt be longer than a few days, take you a little cough syrup if needed.

The round of anitbiotics you had was most likely what the doctor thought you needed, but if you still feel sick don't just let it go. Call, or go talk to your doctor they might have the best answer for you.

Tonsillitis doesn't cause green phlegm. May be you have bronchitis. See the doctor again.

ask your doc and see if he feels that would be appropriate...

it seems that you need some more...

even if it is just a few more days worth...

see if the doc can give you free samples...
