It's partially about giving you a new desktop to look at every day, but also of course about (hopefully) bringing you more features than previously.

Besides the new UI, Vista has a new diagnostic system that will attempt to help you resolve hardware issues, etc. I think this will be a major help to most consumers.

I think most of the new 'features' are things that users can't necessarily see, like improvements to the OS Kernel (core of the OS) for speed, etc.

But when it comes down to it, Vista is all about the new Solitaire - fancy!

It is a new operating system that is supposed to be better. Those of us who have worked in data processing for years have seen many operating systems come and go. Sometimes they have new features that are truly better and sometimes they are just change for the sake of change. Time will tell whether Vista lives up to expectations.

Its Microsoft's new o/s, which supposedly is as close to a Mac's that PC users will get. Its new, pretty & has lots of bells & whistles. Do you need it? No, if XP fits your bill - plus XP doesn't crash. Do you want it? Sure, but you're better off getting it pre-installed than doing it yourself - unless your comfortable diy.If your buying a new system then you'll automatically have it pre-installed but to upgrade to it? I'd wait a while. Let the major bugs get fixed first.

It's Microsoft's new operating system that supports 64 bit hardware.

It's suppose to be faster, more secure, blah blah blah. Time will tell on those things.
