Are Cavities Real?

I have found that it doesn't seem to mater how often i go to the dentist, once every 6months or once every 6 years, and it doesn't mater how much i brush and floss, I always get one cavity per dentist visit.

i swear the surest way to reduce cavities is not to visit a dentist to often.

I suspect the dentists al lying to me, and they just know I'll accept one cavity per visit as normal.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I went to the dentist's for the first time in 18 years on Monday, and guess what? I had ONE cavity!! Yay!
I do believe they're real though!

Cavity. That's the word no one wants to hear at the dentist's office. A cavity (say: kah-vuh-tee) develops when a tooth decays (say: dih-kaze), or breaks down. A cavity is a hole that can grow bigger and deeper over time. Cavities are also called dental caries (say: kar-eez), and if you have a cavity, it's important to get it repaired.

But why would your tooth develop a hole? Blame plaque. That's a sticky, slimy substance made up mostly of the germs that cause tooth decay. The bacteria in your mouth make acids so when plaque clings to your teeth, the acids can eat away at the outermost layer of the tooth, called the enamel (say: ih-nah-mul).

If you don't go to the dentist, the acids can continue to make their way through the enamel, and the inside parts of your tooth can begin to decay. If you've ever had a toothache or heard an adult complain about one, it may have been because there was a cavity that reached all the way inside a tooth, where the nerve endings are. Ouch!

Your dentist will carefully examine your teeth and may take X-rays. If your dentist discovers a cavity, he or she can repair it for you by first removing the rotted part of your tooth with a special drill. The dentist then fills the hole in your tooth with a special material. It's called a filling.

Does it hurt? Sometimes it does, but your dentist can give you an anesthestic. That's a kind of medicine that will numb the area around the problem tooth while you're getting your new filling.

I haven't noticed that. I've had only 4 cavities in my life. 2 of my children have no cavities and they are 12 and 20. My 16 year old son has had quite a few though. Some people are just more susceptible. My dentist says it is hereditary.

No I go years without a cavity. You either don't brush and floss like you should, or you have weak teeth! You dentist should be able to show you the cavity on your x-ray!

I think the Dentist s have a high end business to run, and high overheads. Some have real fancy offices. Who will pay for all this, of coarse you and me. So must take a second opinion, to make sure. If you have insurance, they don t care about you mouth or teeth, they need to bill you once every six months, and find fault in there or else they don t make money. Same goes to all doctors as well. sorry to say. The whole sickness game is played through your mind. If they can drop a ball in your ear and you hear it, it gets into your mind, and you believe it, that s it. you will have it in your next visit.
It s all become about the DOLLAR, not you and me anymore.

I would try a new dentist if you are concerned. But would a dentist really drill your teeth if you didn't have a cavity...?

yes cavities are real....why don't you drink vitamin c to strengthen your teeth's immunity....change you dentist, brush and floss harder [put real effort], and maybe avoid sweets.....but i think cavities are real, tooth fairies are the lie...

Have you been using the same dentist the whole time? If so it sounds like he is just trying to fill his wallet. Get a new one.
