Proverbs 27:15-16

15-16 A nagging spouse is like
the drip, drip, drip of a leaky faucet;
You can't turn it off,
and you can't get away from it.

http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%20%2027;&version=65;

apparently its from "the message"

my appologies, NIV says,

Proverbs 27:15-16
15 A quarrelsome wife is like
a constant dripping on a rainy day;

16 restraining her is like restraining the wind
or grasping oil with the hand.

Doesn't it say steady rain. Which translation is that?

I didn't know it rained in those days...

No. Although they did have devices to stop and divert the flow of water, they had nothing we would recognize as being a faucet.

The ultimate problem here is that you are using a paraphrased version of the Bible... in this case I believe you are using "The Message"... which has converted the original into a more contemporary and theoretically more easily understood form. The more generally accepted translation is the NIV's which I think is every bit as easily understood.

15-16 A quarrelsome wife is like
a constant dripping on a rainy day;
restraining her is like restraining the wind
or grasping oil with the hand.

And they did have rainy days back then.

Yah the revision of this scripture says faucet---The Message Bible does put everything into modern day understanding which I do not like- I would not buy The Message. The other translations- KJV, and the ones below all say rain.The Message came out not long ago- I know people who like it, but I dont really care for it.
NIV says:
15 A quarrelsome wife is like
a constant dripping on a rainy day;

16 restraining her is like restraining the wind
or grasping oil with the hand.

ESV says:
15A continual dripping on a rainy day
and a quarrelsome wife are alike;
16to restrain her is to restrain the wind
or to grasp[a] oil in one's right hand.

Proverbs 27:15-16 (King James Version)
King James Version (KJV)
Public Domain

15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.

16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

Yes. They had faucets.
Jewish tradition has it that the 'molten sea', that is:
the huge bassin of water found in the temple courtyard and sitting on 12 metal bulls, had faucets ....so the priests could wash themselves.
And that's going back to Solomon's time.

This is one of those cases where the text has been 'revised' in order to be more understandable to the readership. You'll find instances of it scattered throughout the text.

Possibly... I know the Romans made huge advancements in irrigation.

My question is "were there domesticated horses in that region of the world during x________ timeline?"

Actually, they did have faucets back then. It was either a Greek or Egyptian invention.
