the important thing to remember is that you need to give your muscles time to heal before you work them out again. for your upper and lower body you need to give them a full day to recover before lifting again, but with your abs you can work them out every day. my suggestion would be to continue going at least 3 days a week (if not 4) and alternate your upper body and lower body workouts, but working your abs and doing some cardio everyday.
light weight, high reps (which is what it sounds like you're doing) will tone the muscles
high weight, low reps will build muscle
as far as an improvement it will probably take a couple weeks but everyone is different.

Once a week isnt really enough. Ideally, you should go 3 times a week for 1.5hrs per session. In each of those sessions, do around 30-45mins of CV work and spend the remainder doing weights. This will give you a nice, lean, muscular physique. YOu will notice results within 1 month, and assuming you are not overwieght, you will start to see a very respectable physique after only 6 months assuming you eat properly. By that, i mean laying off the pizza, chips, fast food, chocolate, crisps, etc and upping your lean meats, wholemeal foods, fruit and veg.

If you want to get really big (NB: most girls do not find this attractive), then you will need to dump the CV and go 4 times a week, pushing yourself hard and eating a strict bodybuilding diet.

My advice? Go at least twice a week and split your workouts. If you are only going twice a week, do NOT use the weight machines - they take more than half the effort out (so muscle growth is drastically reduced) and after a while can hinder future muscle development since the muscle fibers are no longer being stimulated.

Use free weights. They maximise muscle growth since you have to push the weight but also balance it. On your first day work calfs, thighs, butt, lower back, abs. Second workout that week work your forearm, underarm, bicep, tricep, shoulders, chest, upper back.

Otherwise do supersets and hit one muscle group after another in succession. You should read up about working out and get together a decent exercise plan. Keep your exercises varied; do not do the same exercise week-in-week-out otherwise your muscles will get "bored" and you could quickly fall into a plataeu whereby muscle growth is slowed, if not stopped altogether.

I hit each muscle group only ONCE a week (its all thats needed unless you want to get massive), and alternate between 2-3 different exercises per workout per week for each muscle i'm working. Doing this, excellent results can be had in as little as 3-5 months.

My biggest tip? ALWAYS work the legs. They are overlooked by most people, which is very syupid. Firstly, it looks ridiculous to have a great torso, but a pair of womens legs. Secondly, they are the largest muscles in the body, so more protein and growth hormones are released when working them. This greatly benefits the muscle gains of the upper body!

Also, always work opposite to avoid an uneven physique and a poor posture. Never neglect your back. In fact, i spend more time working my back than i do working my chest/abs - and if you want the V shaped torso, it is impossible to get it without a strong back. If you work only your chest/abs and ignore your back, you'll end up looking like Quasimodo in no time. Unless the idea of hunched shoulders sounds good...

Depends on how many sets your doing? Light weight is fine, but it should only be light enough that 15 is when you can't do anymore. Working out is easy. If your doing anything, your getting something out of it, it just depends on how hard you want to work and what you want to accomplish.
If only once a week, it may take awhile to see any improvement.
I would say do 4 sets of 15 at least twice a week, and at least 3 times a week doing cardio for an hour.
Also, diet is 50% of the battle. What you put in, is just as important as what your doing.
Good Luck!

do a cardio routine mixed in with weight training. Weights will build muscle and the cardio will burn the fat. Throw in some fat burning exercise, like the treadmill but don't get it up to cardio level. That should do the trick. Good luck!
