Because diet and nutrition is such a big money maker that everyone jumps on the band wagon....
So many unhappy or unhealthy people out there all want help.
What works is less input (Calories/energy) & more output (Energy used - exersise) never fails, unless there is some medical problem uncorrected, its the willpower & commitment that loses track so we try yet another "diet" each time saying it was "That diet" that failed.

If we believed everything we heard on TV and read in the newspapers we wouldn't be eating anything. And as for Tesco saying they are halving the price of 5 fruit/veg a week to promote the '5 a day', its complete rubbish. For the last 3 weeks my Tesco have had the same fruit at half price and its not the kind of fruit the average family would buy ie apples and bananas, its strawberries, plums and apricots at £2.99 a punnet and there's not much fruit in a punnet. The average family wouldn't be able to afford that. its ridiculous. I'm going to contact them about it and see what they say.

Because it's an easy market to make money off of, especially in America, where we want a magic pill to solve all of our problems. Ultimately, it comes down to eating a variety of foods, moderation, eat less and move more, and everyone would probably be okay, and at a good weight. But we want it all, we want our chocolate cake and to all wear a size 8 (or 32 pants, for the men), and we don't want to have to work for it. So if someone tells us that we can do that, we'll buy their book, or their special food plan, and then next week/month, we'll turn to another solution because this one's too hard.

Lies and trickery have to be used in order to get you to release the money from your wallet. Look up 'food labels' and the deceptive tricks that are used to fool you and I at the grocery stores. Many companies feel that if they can print something that makes you feel good, causes a sudden feel of success, and gives you the hope of completely changing your body, it will draw your attention and sadly they are right. Truth isn't as important when it comes to making profit.

people are gullible and inherently lazy.

the media knows that they will listen to what's being said on televised media vs researching the topic themselves. people are just like cattle, they are easily lead. here it is 2007 and the majority of people still believe that ingested fat makes you fat.
