Pet Groomers: What are the best clippers for cats with fine, thick, very long fur?

Question

Every spring I take my kitty in for a summer shave and would like to buy clippers to do this myself. I want a pair that will make this job the easiest as possible. Although it's only January, his fur is matting out of control.
Your help is greatly appreciated!

My kitty actually enjoys his hair cuts. And is matting even though I brush him daily. My veterinarian is the one who highly recommended the haircuts.

I have been a certified groomer for well over 40 yrs. try using the right comb & brush first go all the way to the skin . not just the top of coat. most folks stop brushing when the pets fight. sorry keep it up. if this doesn*t work I like to use oaster A5 or good andes clipper tractor supply or order from E-bay. ( not ones found in walmart or like stores for small pets. Your Vet is correct in offering this suggestion . better to cut off than stay matted...............

Just make sure you get professional clippers. You might best ask a groomer what brand is best. We tried once with the walmart kind of pet clipper. Big mistake. His hair was very long, thick and also quite fine - especially his underbelly and legs. We got the hair off his back and that is it. It just wouldn't cut through the rest of his coat. He looked like a Franciscan monk, poor thing. We ended up taking the shears back to wal mart and they looked at us like we were trying to pull a fast one. But hey, they didn't work, you know.

lengthy hair is nice but requires upkeep and u have to grow this out for a long time

He will shed. Believe me, he will shed. Bigtime. Brush him often, and throw the fur outside for the birds to use in lining their nests. Don't shave him. That will actually cause him to overheat.

I prefer hair which is shoulder length or longer, As well as since that men who like women are more often then not directly, they like long hair because this looks more feminine, as most males have short hair.

It's a shame that poor pu-ssy cat is getting shaved. You have to brush out the cat most every day to keep the matts out. If he goes outside then you really have to brush..I have a mane comb for horses. It is a rigid metal comb that looks like a rake. Once you get kitty cleaned up it isn't to hard to keep him looking spiffy. I you get a knot, straighten it out best as you can. Take a regular people comb and insert the big teeth under the tangle and snip it off. Some times the cat will look patchy but it save the cat the embarrassment of being bald..Ya gotta look out for his image..
