She was, as expected, very groggy and mopey for about 5 hours after she got home. After that she began acting strange (I guess as the drugs wore off). She won't eat or drink and she runs to hide under my bed. She isn't growling at anyone or showing aggression, it's almost like she feels like she's being punished. We've been telling her 'NO' when she licks her stitches, which she doesn't do often. And she has gone out to go to the bathroom twice even though she hasn't had any food or water. I'm guessing she's just in a bit of pain and it will eventually wear off, but what can I do for her for now to help her out. Also, is it ok to let her stay under the bed? Thanks!

she is acting strange because she is having pains. as each day go by the pain will ease up and she will return to her old self. as for under the bed, you will not be able to see if she is biting at the stitches unless you get down on you knee to see how she is doing. but as long as she is under the bed and not pulling on the stitches leave her be. every dog should have a safety zone. my dogs each have their own spot. one dog takes a chair and one takes to her bed, and one lay on the floor in the bed room and the last will lay on a throw rug. so l guess this must be her safety zone , so just keep a eye on her

She'll be like that for a few days. She's not being punished-she just had pretty invasive surgery. Dogs are tough-but not that tough. Our weim did the same thing. Just make sure she doesn't jump on the bed or run upstairs for a few days. It's ok to let her stay under the bed-but does she have a kennel you can put her in with the door open and a blanket draped over the sides???

I'd just leave her alone. It's fine for her to lay under the bed. She just needs some down time after her surgery. When she does come around give lots of love and attention and treats. She'll be better soon.

you can try tossing a towel in the dryer and then letting her lay on that, the warmth might feel good, maybe give her her favorite treat to make her feel better, or just hold her and cuddle? if she wants to lay under the bed i guess its ok, so long as she's not dragging her tummy to get under there or licking the stiches once shes there.

you can give the dog baby asprin per the weight of the dog. whey have you not feed her a little food and a small amount of water. she is just liking the stitches you do not have to stop her ever time it is you do not want her to chew on them. you will have to keep her calm for about 2 weeks.

She just went through a major surgery...give her time to recover. If your vet didn't prescribe pain medication, go back and get some.

The anesthetic (sp?) they use can also cause nausea which would explain her not wanting to eat. Keep a close eye on this, though.
