I have a Dodge Ram Ext. cab. I like Bass that hits you in the chest. I don't listen to a lot of rap. Trying to find the most efficient way to improve my bass. Ported v Sealed. 2 v 1 subs.

A problem with the last statement, "2 woofers at 250 rms each will push the same amount of air as 1 woofer with 500wats rms." is false.

Two 12 inch woofers push the same amount of air as one 24" (roughly), so it's impossible for one higher wattge sub to push the same amount of air as two lower wattage subs.

Wattage is a measurement of power, not air displacement.

_____________

I read the question just fine as stated, "Whats better? 2, 12" Subs w/250 Watts RMS or 1, 12" sub w/500 Watts RMS?"

Meaning are two 12" @ 250 watts RMS better than one 12" @ 500 watts RMS.

As I've reconstructed the question, yes, two is better than one.

Power has nothing to do with movement of air when it's a question of the number of subs in this case.

I can see that the asker is looking at an option of a mono amp that pushes 500 watts RMS that can go in to one 12" or two 12"s.

As the watts will divide to each sub with two of them (250 each) or one of them (the full 500).

To answer the question, two subs would push more air resulting in harder hitting bass. The difference between the two power levels is only about 3 dB. Every time you double power you only get a 3 dB increase.

If that amp that your using is 300 watts max, then your only getting 150 watts rms, which is 75 watts rms to each speaker. You should look at getting a 400 watt rms amp that is 1 OHM stable. Should be realitively inexpensive.

One sub, because you're not gonna have any trunk space at all with 2 12's. With 1 12" u can do about 2-2.5cubic feet. with 2, u will need 4-5cubic feet! No trunk at all!

hello there.even i asked this once on yahoo aswers when i was deciding to buy a new woofer and an amp.bass is caused due to amount of air displaced...to explain it to simplest 2 woofers at 250 rms each will push the same amount of air as 1 woofer with 500wats rms.that means they both will give same amount of bass as one with 500watts.
now some extra information -i came to kno that my amp was 2 ohm stable..at 2 ohms u'll get more wattage(rms)..but with a lil more distortion, just a lil more.so instead of adding one more woofer i decided to sell my single voice coil woofer(4 ohms) and bought a dual 4 ohm woofer which i connected to my amp at impedence of 2 ohms- this 4 ohm woofer can be converted to 2 ohms or 8 ohms(multiple wiring options) u can ask a shopkeeper also.so this saved my money by two ways
-i didnt have to buy a new woofer
-i didnt have to buy a new amplifier
even more saved on my wiring kit and space of my car.

hey there sparky i asked u a question.r u there?

If it were me, I'd go with the two 12" subs w/250 RMS just because of the more air that would be moved.
