There are many, but the most common ones are:
* Charitable deductions
* Mortgage interest
* Child care expenses
* Property and state taxes (or sales tax -- you get just 1)
* Capital losses
Other deductions are more unusual and require you to own a farm, a business, etc.

The best thing to do is to contact a tax professional, but there is a website by the IRS that is really user friendly. www.irs.gov, forms and publications, pub 17, has a wonderful explanation for what is and is not deductible?
