the fifty year old bottle of wine shop

A wine auction site may be a good place to start, but remember that ANYONE can sell a bottle of wine on them and lie about how they got it. Counterfeit wines are becoming more and more prevalent, and this on top of authentic wines improperly stored, one needs to be VERY VERY careful when not buying from a reputable source.

There are wine distributors who work specifically on vintage wines. Perhaps try calling a top notch restaurant (not during a busy time) and seeing how the sommelier procures older wines. Also try calling a local wine shop to see if they know of anyone or can special order for you.

If you have a specific wine in mind, try http://www.wine-searcher.com/ to look for it.

Good luck in your search.

Why would you want to buy a fifty-year old bottle of wine? it would probably not be fit to drink and only sold to you as a curiosity to stand on your shelf. Get real and buy wine that you can drink.

Personally if i was looking for a particular wine, especially an aged vintage, I'd search the internet for a reputable wine merchant.

You could end up buying a bottle of vinegar if you don't seek expert advice.

Try winebid.com. They have a lot. Otherwise, maybe consider trying a live auction. Christy's and Zachy's are two big names. You don't have to be there either. You can bid over the phone.

Have a look at this! I would have thought that they would be a lot more rare and pricey, but... just shows what you can find if you look!

You might also want to consider ports, sherry's and cognacs, if you're doing an anniversary gift sort of thing!

Best wishes...
