Me and my friend want to join the US army. I heard we can join as buddies-go through training, combat, etc. together and never leave each others side. Is this true?

They will make whatever promises will get you to sign, and once you have signed they own you. All bets are off once they have your signature. They can even disallow the length of service as many soldiers will tell you. Scheduled for 6 years, or even discharged from service, when the army says show up and carry this gun, you go or you go to prison. My (ex)husband and my son have dealt with this for many years. The army always wins and no promises or written agreements matter because there is a little clause in that contract that says you understand circumstances may change and they may change your agreement at their sole discretion. So, if you want to serve, I will support your right to do so, but don't go into it blind. This isn't a game.

Once you both get to the same unit things can change. Go talk to the Recruiters from all the services. Tell them what you want and get answers. Take notes. Then go to another location and talk to some new Recruiters. See if they tell you the same thing and it helps you better understand. Don't sign anything until you are good and ready. There will be a lot of pressure to sign up. Don't rush anything. Each service also has a website for additional information. Don't worry about the stupid answers like the one below. There is honor in serving your country. Some are just too scared and like to strike out at others for their own weakness and shame.

you have two options with the Army. One is Commisioned Officer, the other is Warrant Officer. The Commisioned can expect to do the actual job for which they were trained up until they reach the rank of Major to Luitenant Colonel (ish). The Warrent is a specialist in their job. College is the only route to Commisioned. A Warrant usually starts out as Enlisted then (for ground Warrents) at the pay grade of E-6 can drop a packet to get in to Warrant Oficer Candidate School. The only exception is with Aviation Warrants (helicopter pilots). They can drop a packet at any enlisted rank. Currently the High School to Flight School program is in effect. Basicaly this means that you can come straight in as a Warrant Officer. This program is limited to the needs of the Army however. Hope this helped.

It's partially true. You just have to make sure that the recruiter puts you in together and when you go to sign your contract at MEPS, that it's also the same. Be stern with them, remember, they need you badly.
The only thing is that once you do get to basic, you could end up being separated to different platoons or companys. That you have no control over.

MAKE SURE IT IS WRITTEN ON THE CONTRACT! and the reason the split up the brothers is because the will not put family in the same unit. in WWII five brothers were stationed on a ship ship got sunk all five brothers died. watch saving private ryan thats where the main plot line come from

nope! not at all! ask a local office for specific details. We had brothers join in our town and they were even told that they would be together and right after basic one went to Germany and the other went to Iraq!!
