What are parabens and are they cancer causing?

A friend told me they're a common ingriedient in lotions and other bath products. Are they really harmful and if so, what are some good paraben-free brands, especially for babies?

Whether parabens are truly cancer-causing is debatable. No research has clearly proven it. However, if you would rather be safe than sorry, check out Burt's Bees products, and a wide range of products available at Whole Foods Markets.
