I was honorably discharged in 1991. At this point in my life, under-employed, aged 38, single, no kids, i am bored off my a** and thinking about joining the Army reserves or Guard. Deployment to Iraq does not worry me. I would actually consider it a challange. QUESTION: Would re-uping at my age be sensible or assinine?

It could be mid-life crisis. Let me ask you this:

What do you want to do?

If the answer is try to get a better job, get married, have kids and find entertainment. Do it. I'm sure you will have a very happy and productive life.

If the answer is re-up, do it. The military can use sensible hardworking mature men to keep on keeping on.

Either way you can't go wrong because it is what you want.

I don't think it's assinine; and personally, I'm 40, Married, have two kids, one in college. I have a great job and a great life, and I just mentioned to my wife a few days ago that I was seriously considering re-enlisting. When asked why I answered, because I feel my country needs me.

Why join the reserves or guard? The Army raised the enlistment age to 41. Go for it!!!

Man that totally depends on you. I re-upped in '90 under the conditions that you describe...I enjoyed it, but I did suffer an injury that later forced me out.

I do not regret doing it, actually it helped me get focused on what I really wanted to do!

So if you really want to re-up, then do it...
