My cat is 6 years old now and he loves to lay down with me and suck in my pinky finger. I was told he would stop doing it when he became an adult cat but he hasn't stopped. I love that he does it, but is it bad in any way?

it's not harmful...just a sign that your cat was separated from his mother too early and is extremely comfortable with you. as he's doing this, he's allowing himself to be completely relaxed--and vulnerable, so you probably have a very strong bond with your cat.

i have two cats, brother and sister, that my friend and i rescued when they were about 2 weeks old. they both developed this "sucking" habit almost immediately, and i don't think it's something that will ever go away. the little girl likes to suck on our hands...not just the fingers, any part of the hand...and the little boy prefers my bottom lip (which was adorable when he was younger, but now that he's big i don't let him do it like before, although he still constantly tries lol). the interesting thing is that they ONLY exibit this behavior with my friend and i--despite some of our other friends having been around them almost constantly. it's as if they're showing us that they know we're their "moms". ah, i love them :)

I have a cat that still sucks on things. From blankets to my shirt. It use to bother me, till I asked a vet about it not to long ago.
The had told me that it was were the cat, my cat was not
weened all the way. Plus it is also a way of relaxing them.

I have two cats that suck. Literally. Smokey the 16-pound wide-bodied colorpoint, and his 16-pound brother Coal the Demon. Every time they sit on my lap, which is every time they can, they want to suck my shirt. Smokey is especially pernicious about this. My 14-year-old daughter hates this, and when she sees Smokey get that dreamy look on his face and start pursing his lips (yes, cats do have lips!), she starts shrieking "MOM! Smokey has his suck-face on! MAKE HIM STOP!"

I don't think having a cat that sucks hurts anything, although the kneading claws action is uncomfortable.

And don't even go there about what people think when you tell them your cat is, literally, a big sucker...;-))

My cat is 6 also and she'll suck on my shirt. I don't know why she does this, but I don't think it's bad for them to do it. It almost looks like she's nursing.

my vet friend reconds that sucking could be a result of taking the kitten away from the mother too early,

as my cat was always sucking on my t-shirt, now she licks more than my dog.... she very loving

He might think of your finger as a teat. If it troubles you then don't let him do it but it sounds harmless to me. There could be a different interpretation.

You might want to check with you vet about it. It might cause teeth problems. Otherwise, I don't see any problem with it.
