If you're talking about the Bush Administration putting pressure on gov't scientists to remove references to global warming, it's because they don't want to admit that they've been wrong/incorrect/fighting the wrong fight. Also, the Republican party in general is very cozy with businesses, which don't want to spend money (reasonable enough, although it's harmful to the country in general) on being environmentally friendly.

So by reducing the supposed impact and reality of global warming/climate change, the Administration can say things like, "look, there's all these fringe doomsayers, but gov't scientists don't agree with them, so we're right and they're a bunch of whackos."

The motive is MONEY. It always goes back to some ahole getting more that his fair share by making things worse for the rest of us.

Certain gases don't let the heat escape from the Earth's surface. It's like putting on an extra blanket or an extra sweater. If you put on a sweater, the sweater does not actually make any heat. It just makes it so that the heat from your body does not escape as easily.

Millions of tons of crap DAILY into the atmosphere is nothing to sneeze at. Pun intended.

We are screwing ourselves over for a buck.
Shooting ourselves in the herd.
Stepping on our own ducks.
Cutting off our nose to spite our finch.
Kicking ourselves in the aardvark.

We're ruining it for everybody and everything, and people who can't accept it are three fries short of a Happy Meal.
Have a nice day.

Fighting global warming will end up costing fossil fuel companies and energy companies a lot of money, one way or another.

So the politicians who are supported by by those companies (like Sen. Imhofe) have a huge financial/political motivation to deny global warming is real. That deception is not very credible these days though, and is about to be totally destroyed. The last straw should be the IPCC report this Friday.

Scientists manipulate evidence all the time. That is why a fragment of a skull becomes a whole new species of proto-human.

It is a freaking joke!
