I've heard rumors that the ink will boil under the tanning beds, but truth is, I've never actually seen it happen. Your best bet is to ask the owner of the tanning studio. He/She should be well-versed in the use of the beds and tattoos. If they don't know, go to a different studio; how much else don't they know about their beds. Please use sunscreen (as mentioned before) of a higher SPF for the added protection and go into the bed gradually (don't start with an hour right away...5-10 minutes at first, then a couple days later, 10-15, you get the idea). The worst thing that happens with natural suntans and tattoos is that the color might fade or discolor over time. Just use sunscreen...another good one not mentioned before is SunDog/Dr. Bronners or JASON's.

They will fade, even with sunlight. I have had my tattoos for about 5 years and they havent faded to much. Most tanning places sell a high spf sunscreen stick for tattoos, while you use a bronzer on the rest of your body.

Make sure you are 100% healed first, and you can always get them touched up if they fade too much. Also color fades more than black!

High SPF sunblocks will help, but over time, you'll still notice the damage. Even regular sun exposure can effect tattoos.

Tanning is not only bad for your tattoos, but for you skin and overall health, just don't do it. Why would you want to pay all that money to ruin your skin and tattoo?

Ive had a small black star on my foot for 3 yrs & I tan every other day & nothing has happened to it. You can cover them up if you want to or put some sunscreen on it. Its your choice but I think you will be fine. I hope this helps! :)

No it is not bad. Just be sure to use a sunscreen with a high SPF rating like 45 and up. Bullfrog works well so does No-Ads. No-Ads is a someone generic brand, but it works.

It's generally best to keep tattoos out of the sun as far as possible. But you could put high-factor sunscreen over just the tattoos, I s'pose...

it's bad to tan any time tattoos or not. it's bad for your skin and for your health. but yes, you should cover your tattoos. and sunscreen doesn't protect the tattoos from breaking down.
