Perfect in the BIble means "complete". As others have given the verses, it is clear that scripture shows we have this potential. To say otherwise is to deny the words from Jesus mouth.

Yes, because Jesus Christ Himself said so. See John 10:30-36 (from Psalms 82:6 “I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.”) If you look around you, children grow up to be similar to their parents, and they participate in similar activities. We are already children of God, so as we mature and grow we will be given more responsibility and knowledge to learn what makes Heavenly Father's character and attributes what they are. This spiritual maturation process is not limited to Mormons, by the way, but it is extended to all who are honest in heart and open to learning more about how to keep God's commandments. We believe that it is possible. We do not believe anyone will be or become perfect during this lifetime and that it will take a very long time to become perfected and have the chance at godhood. We don't believe every single mormon without a doubt will have the chance to become a god, nor do we believe those who DO become gods/goddesses will ever in any way be "higher" or "more powerful" or "above" our God, our Heavenly Father.
We do believe we have the opportunity to inherit our Heavenly Father's Kingdom, and all that He has...
