queen of cards - wow you can read minds?! : ) i guess you could include illegals in this but i was referring to all who don't pay taxes legals and illegals and not those who are below the tax minimun either, that was a no-brainer.

The illegal alien criminals don't pay taxes and sponge off the taxpayer. They do it because the government lets them and it's wrong!

Everyone HAS TO pay taxes. If they are not, they are breaking the law. Of course, lots of people don't and most don't get caught but that doesn't mean they aren't supposed to.

Now once people file their taxes they might have a large refund or even get all of their taxes back if they are living at or below the poverty level. This is because taxes attempt to be fair. If you can barely afford food the government gives you the taxes back.

So everyone HAS to pay taxes, but sometimes the government gives some or all of it back.

I think your real beef is that someone can illegally not pay taxes but their children still get to go to school and they can still receive medical care from an emergency room. Once again the fairness issue comes up. Are we going to punish children for the illegal activities of their parents? Are we going to let someone die over taxes?

It would be nice to find a way to stop these abuses, but it's not an easy problem to solve.

Because some people don't make enough money to incur a tax liability.

It's all about leveling the playing field, not strictly paying your own way.
