That's a good example of evolution. Flat fish are born looking like any other fish. As they mature one eye moved over to the other side of the head so that when the fish is laying on the bottom on one side, both eyes are on the top side.
Not only that, one side remains dark for color protection, while the other side becomes light colored, like most fish bellies.
Haddock and flounder are two common flat fish. This shows how nature fashions and changes animals to suit the environment in which they live. Those that change to suit their way of providing for their species survive. Those that can't become extinct.

so its actually changing from one kind of fish to another, like the guy above described. What does it look like when its fully changed? Did you even know that or were you wetting your pants as you tried to cut and paste it as fast as you could? Being able to change from one to the other sounds quite designed but i'm no scientist. Probably should furnish people with all the details before posting

Evolution. Flat fish have adapted from normal fish in order to take advantage of marine environments with sandy bottoms. It's the perfect example of species adaptation to fully exploit the food resources in its habitat.

The flatfish starts off like a normal fish, (ie 'upright/verticle), as a youngster, but during fish 'puberty',. (kind of),. the fish starts to go through a morphing phase (90 degrees, to 'flat'),.. takes a while, but that's why you see the twisted face on it. I'd argue it's evolution AND design,... both parts play vital roles in my humble opinion. :)
