It's based on powers of ten so it's easier to remember units. Also, the units are somewhat interrelated. A liter is a cubic decimeter. A gallon is 231 cubic inches. A liter of water weighs one kilogram.
Which sounds easier?
Once you are familiar with what a meter is or a kilogram is, it's just as easy as the english system.

Most everything is divisible by 10. For example meters and centimeters. In the english or SI system there are different values to convert numbers. Like 12" in 1', which not easily divisible by 10.

A lot of science equations come out neater in the metric system. Like E = m c^2 in the metric system, but not when energy is measured in BTU, mass in pounds (or slugs), and "c" in miles per hour.

the metric system is universal. can be used in just about any advanced nation including the united states. it is also easier to use because it runs in multiples of 100. (10mm equal 1cm, 100cm equal 1m etc)

Due to the fact that it's decimal based, it is a lot easier to use.
E.g.
1 m (meter) = 100 cm (centimeters) = 1000 mm (millimeters)
whereas
1 yd (yard) = 3 ft (feet) = 36 in (inches)
etc.
