There seems to be a lot of people on here that think britain is under the feet of america but if they new there history then they would realise that americans are british. The people on here put britain down and make out it is evil .but in reality it is our strong nation of people and the discovery of coal and iron that made us what we are.The reason we ruled the waves is becouse of this ,and any fool on here who is jelous. Then it just shows them for what they are fools. If any other country had the same resources and bravery then they would have done exactly the same.

Absolutely. God bless you Brits. Your country shaped the course of the world for a good long time and were instrumental in the foundation of mine. Glad that bit of bother is behind us! Really though America wouldn't be what it is today without Britains development and influence.

Wow I never knew that the Spanish were British, Africans were British, Irish were British. My goodness hunny we had a colony over there once but the entire continent was never British. I know we big ourselves up sometimes but isn't that a little beyond the pale?

Also we used to rule the waves because we are an island that got bloody peeded off about being invaded all the time. If you are basing our greatness on the coal and iron what are we going to do now that both industries are almost extinct?

America is (arguably) in the process of beginning its own imperialist phase. They have massive oil reserves and natural resources to exploit (over a MUCH bigger area than we ever had). They control an awful lot and are really the only super power remaining (although I believe China is catching up). Britain in 'under' them because our politicians choose to ally our much smaller country with their much larger one. If we want Independence from them (as they have had from us for a very long time) we will have to work much more closely with Europe if we can pull our heads out of our...... before its too late and we are the newest American state.

a few days back a question appeared regarding bowing and curtsying to our Queen.
I couldn't believe the vulgar replies posted.
However, we live in a democracy so let it be

We do have too bear in mind that The Americans actually wooped our asses back in Carolina a few hundred years ago and formed their own Govt in Washington...So there's no give here with the power struggle. We are 5th in the economy stakes and probably the same if we are lucky in the defence game these days..

So its reality that we should have a special relationship with the worlds largest everything...

Rule Britannia ( if BLIAR hadn't sold her )

Hey, I'm a big fan of the Brits! Had King George not been insane and dealt with the colonies better--we may have been another British province like Canada or Australia.

Remember the old saying--'The sun never sets on the British Empire!"

Well done nice to see someone sticking up for us knocking Britain is becoming a hobby to some people, this does not include criticising the government as I consider them fair game

Britain has had an influence over the world that is out of all proportion to its size. This is undoubted. We are now however, of limited importance save for the remaining vestiges of our colonial past.

It might serve people to think more about the statements they make. As a wise man once said...birth is not something we have any control over. being proud of our nationality is the same as being proud of our toe nails.

Go Britain, but honey, I know that the brits spell "colour" differently, but they don't spell "knew," "their" and "because" like you do. Use the check spelling button! It's what Tony Blair and the Queen would want!

every country has it own political strategies and as long as they keep a country going in the best economical way this means that they work and that was true, every country would have done the same if they had the posibility...

Your generally well-put case is let down by a number of factors:-
1. your spelling and lack of historical accuracy indicates that the education in this country is somewhat less than great.

2. Quite a large number of Americans (including the original inhabitants) are not in any way British or descended from anyone even remotely British.

3. Although coal and iron made us a powerful industrial nation, the core factor in our pre-eminent position in the world was our domination of the seas through the instrument of the Royal Navy. This pre-dates the industrial revolution by several hundred years. See Arthur Thayer Mahan's masterpiece "The Influence of Sea Power Upon History 1660-1783" (btw Mahan was an American).

These factors notwithstanding, I fully agree that Britain has played and continues to play a key role in many aspects of world affairs and is the model to which many lesser nations aspire - which probably goes some way to explain why so many of them seem to want to move in with us.

No wonder the standard of education is so poor in this country - it seems that some people get really upset just because someone demonstrates that they actually have an education (mine was obtained in a rather scruffy and deprived area of the East End of London where most of my ill-educated classmates still live whilst I actually put some effort into using an education to buy my way out). Isn't it sad that people in this great country of ours now think of having an education as a "bad thing" when in the past we were foremost in promoting schooling for all and even the lowliest child from the most deprived area was able to aspire to better themselves without being subjected to mindless ridicule and abuse from someone who seems to know more about being a "nonce" than they should.
