Navel piercings are VERY temperamental and problematic.

Just because the outside looks healed, doesn't mean the inside is. Its okay to change ear lobe piercings after 5-6 weeks, but nothing else.

You should wait until the piercing is completely healed before you change the jewelry. That means at least 6 months and as long as a year before you can change the jewelry.

5 weeks is waaay too soon to be changing the jewelry. If you do change the jewelry too soon, you can tear the fistula (which is the tube of flesh that heals inside the piercing) which can result in everything from rejection to infections and the piercing may not always heal correctly afterward. I know it probably sucks having a plain and boring piece of jewelry in there, but for the general well being of your piercing you really should wait.

If you HAVE to change it now, you should have your piercer help you.

Navels can be really tricky, and can sometimes take up to 6 months to heal completely..if not longer. Atleast that has been the case for most people I know.

I think a good idea would to be to go to your piercer and see what he has to say. It would be hard for someone to give you advice if we haven't seen it.

Personally, I'd wait until I knew it was completely healed before I changed anything. I made the mistake of changing my jewelry too soon and it never quite healed properly.

It's always a good idea to go to a professional in this case. And whenever you decide to change it, make sure you get good jewelry!! Don't go and buy that cheap stuff you find at the botiques in the mall. Go to the place you got it pierced at and buy it there. That cheap stuff isn't good for your piercing at all. (most of it is metal plated, and it can chip off..which you don't want to happen, trust me!)

No. It's best to go the recommended time for healing first because if you take out your naval ring you might not be able to get the new one in, and you might risk an infection. I got a nose piercing done about a month ago and the piercer said to go back in a few months and have them check it to see if it's healed enough for changing jewelry. Go back in a few months and have a piercer check it to make sure it's safe to change.

I would wait. It can take quite a while for a navel piercing to be fully healed.

When I first got mine pierced 7 yrs ago. They put a hoop in it and I hated it. I changed mine out early and it never got infected. I would sterilize the new jewelry first.

it took forever for mine to heal. I was so excited to change it out. I bought 10 or so surgical stainless steel ones before I actually got it done. So when I changed it out....it itched like CRAZY! I figured out that the only way for it not to itch is to leave the original one in. A little bummed...oh well...

I'd wait until they told you to change it. A belly piercing is SO prone to infection...messing with it too early will cause problems beyond your wildest imagination. I wish I never got mine.

no they shoudl have told you when you were picking out the jewelry.. they said to me "pick somethign otu you will be happy wiht for 3 to 4 months" cause thats how long you have to wait to change it since its such a hard area to heal... lots of movement in the waist... ect..

so its soo soon to change it... you will have problems gettign it back in.. i took mine out not to long ago and mine is over 7 months old and i had a bit of trouble gettign it back in...

Zombie_eater is right. Wait until it is fully healed. Less chance of it getting messed up or rejected.
