My cat is a stray that I started feeding about 1 year ago. He is healthy now as I have gotten his shots and vaccinactions.
He gets into a lot of fights with this big orange cat which I don't know if it's a male or female. It's always trying to eat his food.
He is mainly an outside cat because I don't like litter boxes. I let him in while I'm home during the evenings and in the winter I let him stay in until I leave for work at 6am.

I've noticed lately when he goes out he goes across the street to the neighbors driveway, up it and to the back of their house. I went back there one day to investigate but didn't see anything interesting or anywhere that he could go like under their house.

For the past few days he's been gone for 2 days/nights straight. He came home yesterday because he was starving. Right after he ate he was ready to go back outside. He sat on the porch and meowed weirdly like these long heavy meows. There were a lot of birds in the yard.

Have you spayed him? If not, that could play a role in his weird behavior.

If this is an unneutered male, he is out "catting around", looking for females in heat. All the girls are coming into heat now and he has to mark his territory, defend it from the intruding toms, and get it on with the chicks. He is out there increasing the homeless cat population even as you read this.

The best thing to do is neuter him now. He's probably been at bunches of girls already, but at least you can stop the second and third litters.

Also because you don't like litter boxes you are putting this guy at risk of getting seriously injured in a fight with another tom, getting attacked by dogs, getting run over, drinking from a puddle infected with feline aids or feline leukemia viruses, picking up worms or fleas or mange, and a host of other things that could kill him. The AVERAGE life expectancy of an outside cat is 1/4 that of an indoor only cat.

So how much do you like this boy? Enough to see he doesn't die young?

You let him out but wonder why he goes missing for a couple days?? I feel sorry for him because he doesn't have anyone who cares for him. If I lived by you , I'd take him. I'm not afraid to clean litterboxes, and I know I wouldn't have to worry about him getting infections from other cats he fights with because I would keep him inside where he belongs. I would know he would always be warm too. Boy, is he lucky to have you. Do him a big favor and find him a good home with someone who is responsible and would care for him.

if he has not had the snip, then there is your answer. A tom cat who still has his man hood, will wonder miles away from home.

Get him neutered, it will stop him from wandering. Our tom cat is neutered and we leave him out and he always comes back
