to find an answer. Shouldn't a Christian be prepared for all things? Yet, isn't it more honest to just accept sometimes you don't get an answer? Is this lack of faith or prayers?

It is always best to be honest. If you don't know the answer to a question from others regarding what you believe it is in your best interests to find out. Many Christians today say they have "faith" yet do not know with clarity what they have "faith" in.
As a Christian we believe in the truth claims of God that are written in the Holy Bible. When we truly believe the God that we say we believe in and stand on and stand up for what we believe to be true, based on God's truths, our belief transforms into faith. This occurs in our mind and our choices are the result of our standing on what we truly believe. This is a truth for everyone. We all make our life choices based on what we really believe to be true, regardless of what we say we believe, whether we "believe" in God or not.
Our faith is the bridge from the intangible into the tangible, the spiritual realm into the phyisical realm. Our faith is the evidence, the proof, of what we believe to be true yet cannot see. We are unable to verify this truth to our physical senses, up front. In pursuing the promises and truths from God we believe and have faith that God's word is true. When we do this the spiritual moves into the physical and we are able to discern with our physical senses the truth of what we have walked out, stood on and up for because of what we believed to be true. Our proof is always on the back end and never on the front end. This is why "faith" is our bridge to the proof of the truths of God.
God prefers you to be a seeker of truth and to search out and understand Who He is and who you are to Him. When we do this we are more able to stand strong on our faith because we are clear on God's truths and what we really believe.
Do you really believe the God that you say you believe in?
The answer to your question is that we are weak and ineffective because of a lack of knowledge. It is because most of us do not know who we are or what we really believe that our prayers are lacking and our faith is not able to stand in the diversity and circumstances of life.

It's better to say I don't know than to give the wrong answer. Maybe you could say, I don't know, but I'll try to find out. We are told to always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that we have, but I don't think we are expected to be able to answer every single question put to us. What about baby Christians ?? They can't know everything right away. That is too much to ask.
God is beyond our comprehension, so there will always be things we don't understand. You can read the same portion of the Bible for 20 years and continue to get new revelations from it. God is too big for us to totally get ever.

People do not hold all the answers in the world. Yes it is ok to say that "I don't know" however it is not ok to state this and then not to at least attempt to find the information out on your own.(be it asking some one or looking it up)
It is not the lack of faith or the lack of prayers
The Bible does not hold every single answer that man has, for if it did, there would not be enough books to contain it. It holds the information for us to be saved and does answer some basic questions that we may have.

IMO, it is wise to say, "I don't know" when I do not have an answer. Being obligated to find an answer may depend on several factors, but even then, due to our limitations we may never know certain things.
I am not sure how anyone can be prepared for all things, but certainly a Christian should be prepared to give an answer concerning his faith.
To not know everything only demonstrates our limitations as humans.
BTW, good question.

Just make it up, that is the whole premise of religion it is all make-believe (a children's game). That is how the bible came together, how God supposedly talked to people (maybe it was schizophrenia which is most possible), and Jesus never existed (love the one about the virgin birth, yeah like that is believable, Mary was the town bicycle).

Anyone, religious or spiritual or secular or nihilist or whatever... who is unwilling to say 'I do not know' is an idiot of the highest caliber.
Learning is the progressive realization of ignorance.
Just a few minutes ago, I refered to 'Copenhagen' and was refering to the 'Many Worlds' interpretation of Quantum Mechanics. When someone refered to Everett's Many Worlds interpretation, I realized, oops, I had some eroneous concepts in my head -- and corrected them.
It's not the things we know that we learn... you learn things you don't know and decide to know.

There are some things for which we do not have answers. The Bible is full of passages about God's mystery. It is better to say "I do not know" than domesticate God into our own comfortable concepts. There is a danger in mistaking our finiteness for sinfulness or ignorance.

I should think knowing your Bible inside-out would be a requirement for membership in the Christian club, but I'm always surprised when Christians are unaware of certain verses in their Bible. Still, it's better to admit you don't know than to try and fake it. It's also better to admit that you are not hearing the voice of God telepathically in your head, giving you answers, but are simply relying on the teachings of the Bible and various pastors, ministers, books, and websites.

We can not know everything in the bible. If you don't know, say so. It is not a lack of faith or prayer.
