I am thinking about applying for some PD's. What type questions did they ask you in your polygraph? Suffice it to say, I have not always been the fine upstanding citizen I am today, but since marrage and kids 5 years ago, I do no wrong. I want to know if I should even bother to apply. I had and maintaied a Top Secret clearance in the Army with no problem.

it is primaraly the drug use that bothers me. I never used drugs from 18 to 27, then had a 4 month stretch where I used some - automatic disqualifier?

The questions asked in your polygraph will vary somewhat depending on the department you applied to. However, I can tell you from personal experience, the questions you are asked will be based upon the information you provided in your application packet as well as information that is obtained during your background investigation.

Additionally, your best bet is to be up front and completely honest about everything and try not to think too much about the questions you are being asked.

They will ask you about past and current drug use, sex life, theft, and general "are you a good guy" questions. They will run through the questions with you before hooking up the machine and that will be your chance to confess and clarify anything. After they turn on the machine they will word the questions like "other than what we talked about, have you ever done drugs?" Anything you did before you were 18 does not count.

When asked about your drug habits, just be honest about it.
