A Man's Moustache

It is essential to have a well-groomed beard and moustache. You must keep your beard and moustache clean. Beard hair is much coarser than the hair on your head and using hair conditioner on it can make it a little softer. Keep your beard trimmed. It’s worth it to purchase some professional barber’s scissors to get a clean cut. Beard trimmers come in all prices but it is probably worth the extra money to get a cordless beard trimmer. Also, make sure you have a good, well-lighted mirror. You may want to buy a magnified mirror to assist you with trouble spots. Keep a clean, shaved neck unless you want the Moses look.

If you are just starting out, you will need to grow your beard unattended for about 4 weeks. It is going to itch so just keep washing it and don’t allow your skin to dry out underneath it. Then, go to a barber and let him or her clean it up. This way your barber is setting the pattern by providing the lines and the length of the beard hairs. You can copy this in your own home hereafter. A professional barber can also assist you in the best type of beard for your face and hair.

Once you grow a beard, here are a few steps to help you maintain it.

Shampoo your beard daily.

Use conditioner on your beard to soften it.

Towel dry your beard and comb it, using a large tooth comb.

Once your beard is dry you can trim it. If you trim it while wet, you may trim off too much because wet hair is more relaxed than dry hair. Use sharp scissors and/or a beard trimmer. Trim a little at a time and keep the symmetry by trimming one side first then the other side.

Trim your moustache, using your lip as a template. The hair should not grow over your top lip. You can trim your moustache from the center to each edge. Use a small tooth comb when grooming your moustache.

Make sure there are no stray hairs on your face.

This works big time.. apply olive oil (you can get it from the supermarkets) above your upper lip, on your eyebrows, on your sidelocks or even on your cheeks if you want to have the 'stub' look!!

Massaging with olive oil is SURE to produce results. And also as mentioned in the above answers, shave regularly and as often as possible.
