You have a choice in your life to be unrighteous
I do not buy the theory of kids who grow up in a bad home then hit the street once they are grown and become like their parents and do bad.
You know in your heart what is right and what is wrong. When you are grown you can then leave the parents house and start your own life from fresh.(Only those who are weak minded choose to follow down the road that is unrighteous)

This is a good question. Translating from the original Greek is a funny thing. The original word used is malakoi, meaning soft. Some scholars think it meant a person of loose or immoral character. Others think it refers to male prostitutes who dressed as women or male slaves who were used for sex. It seems that the term was directed more at behavior, rather than category. Whatever malakoi meant to the Greeks, it was connected to what was considered perverse sexuality.

Effeminate is a tough word for us in this situation because Paul wasn't referring to effeminate as we think of it. You're right - many men are naturally effeminate...and besides, "effeminate" really depends on what your culture views as effeminate anyway. Back in American history, there were lots of things considered to be feminine distinctions that we would never think of as overtly feminine today. I think that's why Paul was intentionally focusing on actions rather than category - because it is the act of homosexuality that God condemns, not somebody who just happens to have some feminine tendencies.

This just goes to show - translating 2000 year old text is tricky. There's so much cultural stuff that goes into it.

By the way - are you themothra of Livejournal? Did you go to ASMS? I did. Kelli H. is a good friend of mine if that is you.

IMO the word effeminate is referring to those who allow themselves to be used sexually in unnatural ways, which is why we find both terms used here, i.e., effeminate and homosexuals.

verse 11, certainly is plain, even if one has participated in these acts or behaviors, they can be saved, but that does not mean they are allowed to continue in their past ways as a way of life.

Hope this helps a little.

Change quick and obey the word because that is the only way we can make it to heaven...I am glad you ask that question because many times I have read that question and never really thought about the word effeminate.

LOL
I was born a liar, a cheat and a thief, we all were.
They should do whatever they want to do. I don't grab every girl I see and try to have sex with her because I was born a heterosexual. That's just silly. If I was a homosexual I would not be trying to get in the pants of every guy I see.
We are being conformed to the image of Jesus.
